You make a quick gesture towards a target you can see within range. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or take 1d4 force damage and if it is size Large or smaller it is also pushed 10 feet directly away from you.
The spell affects more than one target when you reach higher levels: two targets at 5th level, three targets at 11th level, and four targets at 17th level. The targets must be within 30 feet of each other when you target them.
shove is a very strong potential action, and the only thing that is balancing it is that you have to put yourself in harms way to do it
this thing negates all of that, and is very imbalanced. it is a cantrip, on top of that.
to get a similar effect you would need to buy an arrow of thundrous force or something to push people back, and that is uncommon, and this one is a cantrip
I would be more ok with this if it is a 1st level spell, and for each level above 1st, it increases the DC needed to resist it
You do realize that there are other Cantrips that can move the target like that? And that the shove action also let’s you push someone prone where this spell does not? And that this spell only works on creatures size Large or smaller.
And there is not a single spell in all of 5e that automatically increases save DC just by upcasting, that’s not how spells and saves work in 5e.
I do not know of such cantrips. The xanathar wind gust cantrip I don't think pushes people afaik. Can't think of others.
The potential issue is fall damage, which I like to reward my players through good positioning if they achieve a spart moment, not a distant magic one. If it has to be magic, that moves people, it has to be higher level spells. Mobility is quite powerful, in both defense and offense.
Both Gust and Thorn Whip can move a creature.
If you don’t like my spell, then don’t use it, it’s just that simple.
I know, I just visited your homebrew because you said in description you were open to feedback.
Didn't know of Gust and Thorn Whip move effect, but their range is close-to-medium, which is acceptable.
And thorn Whip is limited, because it is a PULL, not a push.
Gust push is also 5ft, instead of 10ft (which usually doesn't make that much a difference)
The telekinetic shove is 60ft, and that seemed very strong to me. It also affects large creatures (while gust only affects medium). Also, gust does no damage.
Thematically, I do like the darth vader feeling of it, even as a cantrip, but had concerns on balance. I would use this one, but a bit modified.
Despite my mostly negative comments on your work, and despite what Loopuleasa said, I think this cantrip is perfectly fine. Gust has several effects, including pushing a creature 10 feet away. Similar to how prestidigitation has several effects including starting a small fire, produce flame is much, much better at conjuring flames, but can't really do anything else.
In the same vein, one of gusts many options is to shove a creature within 30 feet of you, while this can only shove a creature, but it deals a d4 and has a 60 foot range. Though, targeting additional creatures at each level increase is alot, it's not game breaking but it's definitely on the higher end of what a cantrip can do.
Loopuleasa simply doesn't know the way spells work in fifth edition, and is likely suffering from "I don't like magic solving problems" syndrome.
