You choose a point within range and planks of wood are conjured appearing from the ground, from nearby trees, your hands or the air itself. The planks converge to form a cage in the shape of a cube that is 15 feet on all six sides and the cage "walls" are 2 inches thick. If the area you target does not have the space to accommodate the cage the spell fails.
Any creature that would be caught within the cage may make a Dexterity saving throw. Those that succeed may immediately move up to 15 feet in any direction, taking the shortest route to avoid the cage and this movement can only be to avoid the cage: if, for example, they could avoid the cage with only 5 feet of movement, they can only move that 5 feet. Creatures which cannot move due to having insufficient movement speed or who are incapacitated or restrained automatically fail this saving throw. If the cage would not have the space to fit all creatures that failed the saving throw or all objects that would be caught within it then the spell fails.
The cage once formed is made of resilient, non-flammable, magically enhanced hard wood. Each 5 ft by 5 ft section of the cage "wall" has an AC of 15 and 20 Hit Points and is immune to poison and psychic damage but also vulnerable to necrotic and fire damage. The cage has enough space between the planks to see through but those whin the cage have 3/4 cover from those outside of it and those outside have 3/4 cover from those inside. There is not enough space to make weapon attacks through it, however. Pieces of wood that are damaged and break or fall away immediately vanish. The spell ends if more than half the sections are missing from damage. The wood conjured by this spell is immune to transmutation spells.
If concentration on the spell is maintained for the full duration it becomes permanent until dispelled. Other means of ending the spell, such as damage, still apply.
