You spread your arms and raise your voice in prayer to invoke the power of your deity to vanquish your enemies. A searing column of hot light forcefully descends upon all creatures within range, extending to the ground from the heavens above.
Each creature of your choosing within range must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or take 10d12 radiant damage, or half as much damage on a successful save. An evil-aligned creature has disadvantage on its saving throw. Damage from this spell ignores resistances.
If you are of a non-evil alignment, the first time you cast this spell is guaranteed to be successful. Beginning after this first casting and on each successful casting thereafter, there is a cumulative 15 percent chance that your deity does not intervene, to a maximum of 75 percent. Wanton violence is seen as unbecoming of a cleric, and the spell slot is expended as penance.
If you are of an evil alignment, the damage dealt is instead necrotic, the minimum chance of failure is 30 percent (including for your first casting), and a failed roll does not expend the spell slot. Evil deities seek selfish goals and do not always reward those who follow them.
At the Dungeon Master's discretion, acts of devotion in the name of your deity can reduce the current percent chance of failure.
