You conjure plant sprouts that grow violently, writhing wildly against each other and filling a 50-foot cone on front of you; each creature and nonmagical item in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, the target takes 2d8 bludgeoning + 2d8 piercing damage and loses 10 feet of movement speed until the start of your next turn, the plants rapidly growing around and through them. On a success, the target takes half the damage and loses half the movement speed. The spell's area is also difficult terrain.
As part of casting the spell, instead of originating from you, you can choose for the spell's area to originate from a point within range of you that you can see and spread in a direction of your choice. The plants travel up walls, extend around corners, and wither or shrink quickly after forming, disappearing by the start of your next turn.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d4 bludgeoning and 1d4 piercing damage for each slot level above 3rd.
