Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

No one ever dares ask what goes into the giant stew pot in the galley, they just eat what they are served and are glad for it. As a Ship's Cook, you have learned to weave magic into the food you make so that it can lay hidden inside those who eat whatever you have cooked up.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Ship's Cook feature

You gain proficiency with cook's utensils. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Ship's Cook Spells

3rd-level Ship's Cook feature

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Ship's Cook Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Surprise Stew

3rd-level Ship's Cook feature

Whenever you finish a long rest, you can produce a surprise stew imbued with magic in a metal pot. You can imbue your surprise stew with spells from your spell list that either target Self, or have a range of touch and target a creature. Spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. Preparing a surprise stew requires time spent cooking with your cook's utensils: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell being imbued. This length of time is considered as the same time you would need to chance your list of prepared spells. The same spell may be imbued into the surprise stew multiple times, but the total number of spells imbued in the stew may not exceed your total number of spell slots. Materials that would normally be consumed when casting a spell are consumed upon creating the surprise stew, non-consumed material components can be retrieved from the pot once it is emptied.

After a creature consumes a portion of your surprise stew, you may activate any imbued spells using them as the location of casting. To cast a spell in this manner, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher and the spell must be on your list of prepared spells. If a spell has a triggering condition, that condition may be fulfilled by the creature you are casting through. Cast time and spell duration are unchanged. If applicable, your spell save DC or spell attack modifier is used, otherwise spells act as though the creature cast the spell themselves. You may cast a spell using this feature through any creature that consumed your surprise stew once while the effect lasts. Spells cast in this manner are removed from the list of imbued spells in the stew.

Creating a surprise stew requires you to have cook's utensils on your person and produces enough food for a number of creatures equal to 4 + your proficiency bonus. The effect of the stew lasts for 24 hours or until the end of your next long rest.

Better Out than In

5th-level Ship's Cook feature

You've found new and possibly questionable techniques to allow for your magic to draw some power from the creature who ate your stew. Whenever you cast a spell using your Surprise Stew feature, you gain a bonus to the attack roll or save DC of the spell. The bonus equals the Intelligence or Constitution modifier (whichever is larger) of the creature you are casting the spell through (minimum of 0).

Quicksilver Stew

9th-level Ship's Cook feature

With a few new additions to your surprise stew, your magic can now appear quicker than usual. You may now use your reaction to cast any spell imbued in your surprise stew, no matter the normal casting time.

Unending Pot of Stew

15th-level Ship's Cook feature

Magic and food are now so entwined in your hand that you are able to extract every flavor and magical effect from your stew. Spells cast using your surprise stew feature now only cost half a spell slot of the appropriate level, and are not removed from the prepared spells in the stew. Additionally, spells can be cast through a creature that consumed your surprise stew any number of times while the stew lasts, at this reduced spell slot cost.
