Base Class: Artificer
Scribes specialize in understanding and creating spell scrolls. Using their Calligrapher's Supplies, these scribes are able to create powerful pieces of parchment, some of which are so simple and rudimentary that even a commoner could use them.
Tool Proficiency
At 3rd level, you learn your tools of the trade.
You gain proficiency with Calligrapher's Supplies. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tool of your choice.
Scribe Spells
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Scribe Spells table. These spells count as Artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of Artificer spells you prepare.
Scribe Spells
| Artificer Level | Spells |
| 3rd | Comprehend Languages, Illusory Script |
| 5th | Detect Thoughts, Misty Step |
| 9th | Sending, Tongues |
| 13th | Locate Creature, Polymorph |
| 17th | Legend Lore, Scrying |
Scrivener
At 3rd level, you know how to evoke the written word.
Using your Calligrapher's Supplies, you can expend a spell slot to cast an Artificer spell and store its magic onto a piece of parchment, creating an Arcane Scroll. The spell you wish to store must have a casting time of 1 action or 1 bonus action, and cannot have a material component which is consumed or has a cost. If the spell you store requires concentration, the spell must only be capable of targeting a single creature.
A creature holding an Arcane Scroll can read it to cast the stored spell, whereupon the scroll is destroyed. Reading the scroll requires the spell's normal casting time, and the spell uses your spellcasting ability modifier. If the spell requires concentration, the creature casting the spell must concentrate for the spell.
You can touch one of your Arcane Scrolls and dispel it as a bonus action, allowing you to regain the spell slot you used to create it. When you finish a long rest, any unused Arcane Scrolls are destroyed.
Clerk
At 5th level, scribing down spells comes easily to you.
When you finish a long rest, you can create Arcane Scrolls without expending spell slots. The combined level of all Arcane Scrolls you create using this feature cannot exceed half your Artificer level (rounding down).
Arcane Scrolls you create using this feature cannot be dispelled to regain spell slots.
Potent Parchment
At 5th level, you scribe your spells with a powerful flourish.
Whenever a creature uses an Arcane Scroll, they can empower it in one of the following ways:
- The spell gains a bonus to one of its damage rolls. The bonus equals your Intelligence modifier (Minimum of +1).
- Targets of the spell have disadvantage on the first saving throw they make against the spell.
- The scroll's user gains advantage on the first Constitution saving throw they make to maintain concentration on the spell.
Copyist
At 9th level, the way you write evokes even more magic.
You can create any Spell Scroll with a rarity of Common or Uncommon, even if the spell isn't prepared or on the Artificer spell list. You ignore all class and level requirements for using any Spell Scroll you create. (See pages 169-170 in the Basic Rules for more information on creating spell scrolls.)
When you create a Spell Scroll using your Calligrapher's Supplies, you can replace the scroll's Attack Bonus and Save DC with your own.
Mana Manuscript
At 15th level, the words you write are intensely evocative.
When you use your Spell Storing Item feature, rather than touching a weapon or item, you can touch one of your Arcane Scrolls to imbue it with additional magical capacity. The scroll gains a number of charges based on the stored spell's level, as shown in the table below. Casting the stored spell consumes one of these charges - only once all of the Arcane Scroll's charges are consumed or when you complete a Long Rest is this Arcane Scroll destroyed. You can have an Arcane Scroll like this even if you already have a Spell-Storing Item.
Mana Manuscript Charges
| Spell Level | Number of Charges |
| 1st | 4 |
| 2nd | 4 |
| 3rd | 3 |
| 4th | 3 |
| 5th | 2 |
