Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

A Dragonwright uses their craft to replicate the might of true dragons. They create weapons that deal both physical and elemental damage, like the bite of a chromatic dragon. They sling spells that simulate the alternate breath weapons and other abilities of metallic dragons. They even learn to fly like them, and eventually achieve a brief gestalt of draconic power.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Dragonwright feature

You gain proficiency with jeweler's tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Dragonwright Spells

3rd-level Dragonwright feature

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Dragonwright Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Draconic Weapons

3rd-level Dragonwright feature

Your study of draconic magic has led to the creation of powerful weapons that can imitate the effect of a dragon's bite or breath.

  • You gain proficiency with martial weapons.
  • The maximum number of items you can infuse at once increases by 1, but that extra item must be a weapon.
  • When you imbue a weapon with one of your artificer infusions, you can replace its magical damage bonus with an elemental infusion. Choose acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison. On a hit, the weapon deals an extra 1d4 of the chosen type.

You can change the weapon’s elemental type whenever you finish a short or long rest, provided you have jeweler's tools in hand.

The extra elemental damage of your draconic weapons increases to 2d4 when you reach 10th level in this class.

Draconic Blast

3rd-level Dragonwright feature

When you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with a blast from a draconic weapon you're holding in either a 15-foot cone or a 5-by-30-foot line (your choice). Each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 2d6 damage of the weapon's elemental type on a failure, or half as much damage on a success. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

The range and damage of this ability increase as you gain levels in this class:

  • Starting at 9th level, it is a 30-foot cone or 5-by-60-foot line and deals 3d6 damage.
  • Starting at 15th level, it is a 45-foot cone or 5-by-90-foot line and deals 4d6 damage.

Extra Attack

5th-level Dragonwright feature

You can attack twice, rather than once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Draconic Flight

9th-level Dragonwright feature

You've created artificial dragon wings which you can use to temporarily fly at great speeds.

You can cast Fly on yourself without expending a spell slot, without preparing the spell, and without material components, provided you use the wings as the spellcasting focus. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Draconic Might

15th-level Dragonwright feature

You've developed the ability to briefly maximize your draconic power. All at once, your artificial wings unfurl, your defenses are bolstered, and your draconic weapon flares with elemental energy.

While wielding a draconic weapon, you can use a bonus action to gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • You gain a flying speed of 60 feet.
  • You gain temporary hit points equal to twice your level in this class.
  • You gain resistance to the elemental type of the draconic weapon. If you already have resistance to that damage type from another source, you gain immunity to it.
  • The extra elemental damage of the draconic weapon increases to 2d6.

Once before this effect ends, as an action, you can use your Draconic Blast ability with the weapon. This usage doesn't count against the normal limit for the ability, and it deals maximum damage.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
