Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

Scoundrel Artificers rely on their gadgets and talents to stick to the shadows, striking devastating blows then disappearing into the background.

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Smith’s Tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Scoundrel Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Scoundrel Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Expertise

When you first take this specialty at 3rd level, choose one of your skill proficiencies any of your tool proficiencies. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies.

At 9th level and 15th level, you can choose one more of your proficiencies (in skills or with any of your tools) to gain this benefit.

Hidden Gadgetry

When you reach 5th level, you learn how to utilize the shadows to enhance your gadgets. Whenever you cast an Artificer spell with your action, you can choose to immediately beforehand take the Hide action, potentially allowing you to cast that spell obscured. Casting the spell will still give away your location as usual.

Sneak Gadgets

By 9th level, you have learned how to use your gadgetry while obscured without revealing your position. If you cast a spell while hidden that does not deal any damage or force a saving throw, casting the spell does not reveal your location.

You can do this an amount of times equal to your Intelligence modifier, and you regain all uses after a long rest.

Hidden Master

At 15th level, you have mastered how to use your technical know-how to always stay hidden. If you fail a stealth check, you can use your reaction to cast an illusion spell of first level or higher with a casting time of 1 action. Once you do this, you cannot do it again until you take a short or long rest, unless you expend a spell slot 1 level higher than you would for the spell (for instance, if you cast Invisibility at 2nd level, you would need to expend a 3rd level spell slot or higher).
