Base Class: Artificer
Wayfinders use their extensive knowledge of spatial travel and a Wayfinder's Compass to teleport and travel with ease. While they may not be the most well equipped for battle, artificers of this specialty can easily use their superior maneuverability to gain an advantage over their enemies.
Wayfinder Spells
Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Wayfinder Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they do not count against the number of spells you have prepared.
Wayfinder Spells
ARTIFICER LEVEL | SPELLS |
---|---|
3rd | Detect Magic, Magic Missile |
5th | Knock, Shatter |
9th | Blink, Sending |
13th | Banishment, Dimension Door |
17th | Hold Monster, Passwall |
Wayfinder's Compass
At 3rd level, your experimentation with spatial magic has allowed you to build a Wayfinder's Compass. Taking 1 hour and using tinker's tools or cartographer's tools, you can create a Wayfinder's Compass. This compass counts as a spellcasting focus for you and is what allows you to navigate as you travel through reality.
The compass contains a number of charges equal to your Artificer level and regains all expended charges on a long rest. You can also recharge it using spell slots. You can expend a spell slot as an action in order to charge the compass a number of charges equal to the spell slot level expended. These charges can be used in the following ways.
- Blink (1 Charge). As a bonus action, you can teleport to a location you can see within 15 feet.
- Portal (3 Charges). As an action, you create linked portals that remain open until the start of your next turn. Choose two points within 60 feet of you on a solid surface you can see. A circular portal, 5 feet in diameter, opens on each point. Any creature or object entering the portal exists from the other portal as if the two were adjacent to each other.
Quick Sprockets
At 5th level, your Wayfinder's Compass is now faster than ever. Whenever you expend a charge to use the Blink feature, you can make a melee attack against a target within range as part of the bonus action used to teleport.
When you attack in this way, you deal additional force damage equal to your Intelligence modifier. You can do this either before or after you teleport.
Spatial Plasticity
At 9th level, you can temporarily expand or compress space between two points. Before a creature attacks, you can use your reaction to double its attack range, potentially allowing it to hit previously unobtainable targets. Alternatively, before a creature attacks, you can use your reaction to halve its range, potentially placing an attainable target outside of its range.
This does not affect melee attacks.
Compass Master
At 15th level, you have perfected the design of your Wayfinder's Compass, upgrading both of its abilities. Make sure you enable the "Upgraded Wayfinder's Compass" replacement in the Optional Feature Manager tab above.
