Base Class: Artificer
Since the days of the Last War in 965 YK when Warforged were crafted as soldiers by the skilled craftsman of the Izzett Engineers and the different clans of Gnomes. Artificer’s constructs and machines have been integral in combat and even in the daily lives of these engineers. In this class you design, build, improve and deploy a robot of your making to help you not only in combat but daily activities. This robot has many different uses and can serve many different roles, you have access to much versatility, but can you decide what best to choose in different situations? Do you have the Intellect to successfully make it as a Robotic Engineer and control the chaos that can sometimes be machines.
As additional roleplay value you can have your summons re flavored to all be mechanical versions of themselves. Your summons and your bot are steampunk themed with gears and cogs visible, and the outer shell is not complete.
Robotic Engineer Spells
Starting at Level 3, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this subclass, as shown in the Robotic Engineer Spells Table below. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare, you use your Intelligence modifier for these spells.
| Robotic Engineer Spells | |
| Artificer Level | Robotic Engineer Spells |
| 3 | Find Familiar, Mending |
| 5 | Flock of Familiars, Immovable Object |
| 9 | Leomund’s Tiny Servant, Conjure Animals |
| 13 | Summon Construct, Fabricate |
| 17 | Awaken, Animate Objects |
Tool Proficiency
Starting at Level 3, you become proficient in Tinker’s Tools, if you are already proficient, you can choose one of the other artisan’s tools of your choice and become proficient in that.
Blueprint Crafting
Starting at Level 3, you can make blueprints. Blueprints are drawings that you have created from seeing creatures and creating a blueprint based off them. To create a blueprint you spend 10 minutes creating a blueprint of a creature you have recently seen or are currently looking at of a challenge rating of 1 / 2 or lower this goes up certain levels, then perform a nature check (this is to simulate drawing a creature) if you fail the blueprint is not created, if you pass, then you successfully craft that blueprint. You can have blueprints equal to your proficiency bonus, you also start with that many blueprints. When designing a blueprint, it gains one natural weapon attack of your choice of the creature that was used for the blueprint and all movement speeds that creature had as well (For example: if they had a flying speed the blueprint has the same flying speed Or if it had claws it gets the claws attack). The blueprint needs to be approved per the DM. You can spend 10 minutes replacing one blueprint with another new blueprint, you can do this once per long rest. Weapons that are equipped to your bot are not necessarily physically held by the bot but, instead it is incorporated into the bot’s design using their natural weapons (like claws for a hawk for example) instead it uses the attack value of the weapon it’s using instead of it’s natural weapon attack. You can find other blueprints in the wild instead of drawing them, this will be available per the DM.
Robotic Engineering
Starting at Level 3, you gain the ability to craft a tiny or small bot and you can also install a mode into your bot. You can build your bot during a long rest by using your Tinker’s Tools, one blueprint and pay the size cost (The following are the size costs: Tiny= 50GP, Small= 100GP, You get larger sizes at later levels those costs will be included in that feature), then perform a History check. If you fail you lose the costs associated with it and you do not create the bot, if you pass then you successfully created your bot. If your bot dies you can craft a new one during a long rest while performing a history check to rebuild your bot, if you fail you lose all costs associated, if you pass you successfully create your bot. You can only have 1 bot at a time. When you choose to build your bot you choose one blueprint that you have designed the bot takes on the looks and features of the blueprint (using your Blueprint Crafting feature) of a size equal to the size of the blueprint you are creating and use that creatures stat block with +1 AC and they retain all the movement speeds and natural weapon of the Blueprint (the creature chosen for the blueprint must be approved of by the DM and the required challenge rating per level), you do not retain any of that’s creatures other abilities, actions, legendary actions, reactions or spells. The bot is friendly to you and your companions and obeys your commands to the best of its ability if they are within range of you which is equal to its walking speed. It shares your initiative and takes its turn after your turn. On your turn, you can verbally command the bot where to move (no action required by you). It can move but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action including the Attack, Dash, Disengage, Help or Ability action. If you are incapacitated, the bot can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge. If you don’t issue a command, the bot takes the Dodge action. Your bot is immune to the charmed and frightened conditions, it is also resistant to psychic and poison damage. You can speak through your bot and you can also tell remotely what condition it is in. If the Mending spell is cast on it, it regains 2d6 hit points +proficiency bonus. If you are incapacitated or absent, the bot acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself. The bot never requires your command to use its reaction, especially if it's making an opportunity attack. Your bot uses the stat block based off the blueprint it was created with. If your bot goes into water it receives 10 damage every turn that it is in water.
Modes: You can install a mode during a long rest by using Tinker’s tools and making a skill check based on the mode you are installing. You can transform your bot into different modes at the end of a long rest. Your bot can only have modes installed equal to your proficiency bonus (this goes up at later levels) and only 1 mode can be active at a time. There are 4 different modes to choose from: combat, scout, stealth, defense. All of them require certain components to transform into and certain ones are only available at higher levels, these will be listed at the levels they are gained.
You gain access to the following mode at Level 3:
Combat mode (Level 3): This mode is used to increase attack capability. When you install this mode, you can install it with 2 weapons of your choice that you are proficient in, you can only have 1 two-handed weapon built into this bot, but you can have any combination of weapons (such as 1 sword and 1 crossbow, or 1 great sword and 1 hand crossbow). However, you cannot do 1 great sword and one crossbow as they are both two-handed. They use whatever weapon you install them with, and they are considered to have proficiency with those weapons. At the beginning of a combat round, you can choose to have the bot switch weapons to any weapons you have included in its build. When this is installed, your bot gains the following ability: Ability: As a bonus action you can choose 1 target of your choice within 10 ft of this bot they get advantage on their next attack roll (This is only once per long rest). Skill Check: Acrobatics check Requirements: The chosen weapons you are installing that you are proficient in.
