Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

The Astronomer is an artificer who peers into the cosmos, unraveling its mysteries. These artificers create tools to observe celestial phenomena, channeling starlight into powerful magical effects. Their creations often involve telescopes and other intricate instruments that bridge the gap between science and magic.

Level 3: Astronomer's Spyglass

Starting at 3rd level, you are granted proficiency with Cartographer's Tools. You can create a magical spyglass, a unique item requiring your cartographer’s tools and 1 hour of work. This spyglass allows you to observe the celestial tapestry and grants the following abilities:

  • Researched Insight: With your spyglass in hand, you gain the use of detect magic.
  • Focused Vision: As a bonus action, you can focus your spyglass on a creature or object within 120 feet. For 1 minute, attacks against that target are made with advantage if they rely on sight.
  • Magnify: Over a short rest, you can use the spyglass to record cosmic phenomena, which fuels your future work. You can expend one use of this feature to reroll an Intelligence (Arcana) or (Investigation) check.

The spyglass is considered magical, has an AC of 15, and hit points equal to 10 + your Intelligence modifier. If destroyed, you can recreate it over a long rest.

Level 5: Celestial Bond

At 5th level, your studies of the heavens lead you to a profound connection with a celestial entity or divine force. This bond imbues you with a fraction of its power and guidance:

  • Divine Guidance: Once per long rest, when you make an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw, you can add a d6 to your roll, representing insight granted by your celestial connection.
  • Starlit Prayer: You learn the bless spell and can cast it once without expending a spell slot. You regain the ability to do so after a long rest. When you cast it, faint constellations shimmer around your allies.

Your spyglass becomes a holy symbol for this connection, allowing you to channel divine magic through it.

Level 9: Stellar Mechanics

At 9th level, your mastery of celestial mechanics allows you to harness the power of starlight for practical and tactical purposes:

  • Radiant Circuitry: Your attacks now deal an additional 1d6 radiant damage once per turn as your equipment amplifies and projects stellar energy.
  • Cartographic Overlay: As an action, you can project a holographic star map into your surroundings using your Astronomer’s Spyglass. For 10 minutes, the map grants the following benefits within a 30-foot radius:
    • You and your allies ignore difficult terrain not obscured or hidden by a magical effect.
    • You and your allies gain a +2 bonus to Intelligence (Investigation) and Wisdom (Perception) checks made to locate hidden objects or creatures.

You can use Cartographic Overlay once per long rest.

Level 15: Stellar Engine

At 15th level, you achieve unparalleled mastery over the forces of the cosmos, blending celestial power with mechanical precision. You develop the Stellar Engine, a powerful device that channels cosmic energy into dynamic effects. As an action, you can activate the Stellar Engine, creating a 30-foot radius field of cosmic energy centered on the Engine until you deactivate it. While the field is active, you can choose one of the following effects at the start of each of your turns:

  • Gravitational Flux: You manipulate gravity within the field. Hostile creatures in the area must succeed on a Strength saving throw (DC equal to your spell save DC) or be pulled 10 feet toward you and knocked prone. Allies in the field can move an additional 10 feet on their turn without provoking opportunity attacks.

  • Radiant Pulse: You release bursts of radiant energy. Hostile creatures in the field take 2d6 radiant damage at the start of their turn, while allies gain 2d6 temporary hit points.

  • Astral Projection: A starry projection of yourself appears, aiding your calculations. You can cast spells and make attacks as though you were in the projection’s space (within the field). The projection is incorporeal and cannot be targeted.

Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
