Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Whilst many barbarians fuel their rage through anger and natural or divine sources, there are others who have found their rage is fuelled through channelling the presence of a powerful demon. Somehow they've been infused with part of the power of this creature, and as their dedication to the path grows, the changes grow in magnitude too, reaching a horrifying climax as they become a fusion of both the demon and their own form.

Few demons demonstrate powers which manifest this way in the creatures of the material plane as it requires a particularly strong essence to affect creatures in this way. Only Balor, Goristro, Marilith and Nalfeshnee demons seem to have been strong enough to grant this affect, but the result is a terrifying fusion of aspects of both the demon and the barbarian.

Abyssal Calling

When you choose this path you learn to read and speak abyssal and gain proficiency in the intimidation skill if you don't already have it. You also learn the thaumaturgy cantrip. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Additionally, your rage causes your appearance to change slightly as you channel the power of a demon to fuel your rage. Choose one of the demons listed and gain its features.

Balor

Whilst your rage is active, your eyes and open mouth glow, fuelled by the internal fire of a Balor demon.

When you drop to 0 hp whilst raging you emit a fiery explosion. Each creature within 10 feet of you must make a dexterity saving throw. Roll a number of d6’s equal to your proficiency modifier. A creature takes that much fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Your save DC for all Balor features is equal to 8 + your proficiency modifier + your constitution modifier.

Goristro

Whilst you rage you channel the primal fury of a Goristro demon.

Whilst raging, if you move at least 20 feet in a straight line towards a large or smaller creature then you can ram it as a bonus action attack. You are proficient with this attack which uses your strength modifier for attack rolls. If the attack hits it deals 1d6 + your strength modifier bludgeoning damage, and the creature must succeed on a strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

Your save DC for all Goristro features is equal to 8 + your proficiency modifier + your strength modifier.

Marilith

When you rage you channel the quick, serpentine reactions of a Marilith demon. Whilst raging, you can take an extra reaction each round, but this reaction can be used only to make an opportunity attack.

Nalfeshnee

You can channel the frightening presence of a Nalfeshnee. Whilst raging, you can use a bonus action to emit a fearful aura. Each creature within 15 feet of you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened of you for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to the effect of this aura for the next 24 hours.

You can use this ability only once per rage.

Your save DC for all Nalfeshnee abilities is 8 + your proficiency modifier + your charisma modifier.

Demonic Resilience

You gain resistance to poison damage. Additionally, whilst raging you have Immunity to the poisoned condition and immunity to poison damage. If you’re poisoned when you enter your rage, the effect is suspended for the duration of the rage.

Greater Calling

Your inner demon’s influence grows in power and you gain further benefits based on your selection at 3rd level.

Balor

You can now expend an additional use of your rage feature to emit the explosion as a reaction to taking damage instead of only when you fall to 0 hitpoints. Additionally, it also triggers when you become bloodied and reach 50% or less of your hitpoint maximum. This additional trigger can only happen once per rage.

Goristro

You can perfectly recall any path you have travelled, and your melee attacks now deal double damage to objects and structures.

Marilith

You can now take the additional reaction even if you aren’t raging, however it can still only be used for opportunity attacks

Nalfeshnee

Creatures who are afraid of you have their speed reduced to 0 whilst within the aura as they are frozen in fear.

Demonic Transformation

As the demon’s influence grows, your body now undergoes a transformation each time you enter a rage.

Balor

Horns grow out from the side of your head and your skin takes on a more reddish hue.

If you are raging at the start of your turn, each hostile creature within 5 feet of you takes 5 fire damage and flammable objects in this aura which aren't being worn or carried ignite.

Additionally, immediately after a creature in your aura hits you with an attack whilst you are raging, you can use your reaction to force that creature to make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes fire damage equal to half your barbarian level.

Goristro

Bull-like horns grow from your head and your feet turn into hooves.

Your ram attack now deals 1d12 piercing damage instead of the 1d6 bludgeoning damage.

Additionally, if you are attacking a prone creature or an object/structure within 5 feet of you, then you can make a hoof attack in place of one of your weapon attacks in the attack action. The hoof attack is considered magical and deals 2d8 + your strength modifier bludgeoning damage.

Marilith

When you enter your rage, your legs merge together and become a long serpentine tail.

As a bonus action on your turn you can make a tail attack against a target within 5 feet of you. This tail attack is considered magical, uses your strength modifier to hit and deals 1d10 + your strength modifier bludgeoning damage on a hit.

If the target is Medium or smaller then it is considered grappled. Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, you can automatically hit the restrained creature with your tail attack on subsequent rounds, and can't make tail attacks against other targets.

Nalfeshnee

When you enter your rage, small, feathery wings sprout from your back. While raging, you now have a flying speed equal to your current walking speed. This benefit works only in short bursts; you fall if you end your turn in the air and nothing else is holding you aloft.
