Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks who are practitioners of the Way of the Fluid Body focus less on direct combat and more on avoiding combat altogether. Their incredible acrobatic ability allows them to dodge, deflect, and counter assailants using skills which promote both beauty and power. Monks following this tradition tend to focus on the ideas of balance and fortitude over pure strength or speed.

Powerful Foundation

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you learn to more masterfully control the distribution of your body weight. When you spend a ki point to use Patient Defense, you choose to benefit from one of the following effects:

  • Until the start of your next turn, when a creature misses you with a melee attack, you may use your reaction to take an attack of opportunity against that creature.
  • Until the start of your next turn, you have advantage on Acrobatic throws to contest being Grappled by another creature.
  • Until the start of your next turn, you have advantage on Acrobatics throws to contest being Shoved by another creature.

The effect that you wish to benefit from must be declared at the time you use Patient Defense on your turn.

Unstoppable Force

You can now weave your different acrobatic techniques into one fluid movement, allowing you to perfectly conserve the force behind your body. Starting at 6th level, when you finish movement on your turn, you may spend 2 ki points in order to make an unarmed strike (as a bonus action) against a creature who is within your range at the point you stop. If the attack hits the creature, your attack deals an additional 1d4 damage for every 10 ft moved (rounded down). The distance considered for calculating the additional damage must be from utilizing your Movement Action and/or Dash Action, and the distance considered must be in a straight line, without stopping or taking any other action between your movements.

This feature cannot be used against a creature who has forcibly stopped your character's movement.

(Example: A medium-sized, 6th level monk has a movement speed of 45ft. He starts his turn moving 10ft, attacks a creature, and then turns and moves 35ft towards another creature. At the end of his movement he spends 2 ki points to utilize this feature. The total distance he traveled was 45ft, but only 35ft of his movement was in a straight line prior to him finishing his movement next to the creature. Thus, when his attack hits, he would deal an additional 3d4 damage against the creature.)

Contortionist

You have mastered the movement and flexibility of your appendages, making your body behave in ways most common people consider to be unnatural. At 11th level,  your unarmed strikes are now considered to have the Reach weapon property. Additionally, when attempting to Grapple a creature (or contest a creature’s attempt to break your grapple), you my use Acrobatics instead of Athletics. Finally, as a bonus action, your body may contort to form either a cube which is equal to half your height on each side or a ball which is half your height in diameter.  While in this form you cannot take a movement action, and you have advantage on Stealth checks.

Enchanced Athleticism

At 17th level, the bonus to your walking speed granted by your Unarmored Movement is now +40 ft for this level and the levels after. Additionally, you can spend 5 ki points to gain the the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • Your carrying capacity is doubled
  • You have advantage on all Athletics and Acrobatics skill checks
  • Attacks made to damage objects (not creatures) count as a critical hit if the attack succeeds.
