The Sword Dancers are a special order of drow priestesses that worship Eilistraee, the drow goddess of Beauty, Moonlight, Song, and Swordwork. The sword dancers are gifted artists, dancers, and acrobats, and--like every priestess of Eilistraee--they are skilled in the arts of singing and playing at least one musical instrument (most commonly the harp, flute, and horn). They strive to nurture beauty, music, and song, and they work to spread joy wherever and whenever they can.

The sword dancers are also skilled sword wielders, known to use their art while fencing. They fight employing an agile and acrobatic style, that allows them to quickly and gracefully move on the battlefield, with movements that resemble a dance.

As priestesses of Eilistraee, the sword dancers operate in accordance with her teachings. They have the duty to lead and be on the frontline in missions to find, encourage, assist, and protect any drow looking to return to the surface (or that could be persuaded to return) and embrace a different life, far from Lolth's evil schemes.

Sword dancers tirelessly work to promote harmony and cooperation between the drow and other races, and as a result they usually live near non-drow settlements. They often aid the local population by bringing food, cures, protection, and their iconic artful performances, in order to establish friendships and to offer the drow converts a place on the surface world.

Dark Maiden's Grace

When you choose this domain at 1st level, you gain proficiency with longswords, longbows, a musical instrument of your choice, and Eilistraee's moonfire which you can cast at will.

Improved Defense

While you are wearing no armor and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier.

You can also take the Dodge action with a bonus action.

War Dancer

In battle, you fight with graceful elegance. On your turn, you can enter a war dance as a bonus action.

While dancing, you gain the following benefits if you aren't wearing armor:

  • You have advantage on Dexterity checks and Dexterity saving throws.
  • You can use Dexterity instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of weapons with the Versatile property.
  • You have resistance to piercing, slashing, and bludgeoning damage.

You can't cast spells requiring concentration while dancing and any spell that you are concentrating on is immediately dispelled when you enter into a war dance.

Your dance lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven't attacked a hostile creature since your last turn or taken damage since then. You can end your dance on your turn as a bonus action.

You can use this feature a number of times as stated on the war dancer table. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Channel Divinity: Spellsong

Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to heal the badly injured through your spellsong.

As an action, you present your holy symbol and evoke an aura of healing energy. When you use this feature, you can designate any number of creatures you can see within 30 feet to each regain hit points equal to 2d8 + your spellcasting ability modifier. You can’t use this feature on an undead or a construct.

Extra Attack

Beginning at 6th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with divine energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 damage of the same type dealt by the weapon to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8.

Moonsong

At level 17 the Dark Maiden bestows on you the magic of the Moonsong, allowing you to travel along rays of moonlight.

This magic was provided by Eilistraee to her followers, to help them travel to lands far away. The priestesses sang a sweet melody reminiscent of the sound of the wind, summoning a soft curtain of moonlight. As the priestesses did that, they could hear the songs of distant lands, joyful melodies that each place and the people that lived there sung when lit by the moon. Once the song of the place chosen as destination, or of its people, was heard, the priestess needed to follow it and be transported there along beams of moonlight.

As an action, you present your holy symbol and begin singing a soft melody and call forth rays of moonlight. You and up to 8 willing creatures of your choosing travel along these beams of moonlight to any place you have previously been as if using the teleport spell. You can use this feature once per day.
