Base Class: Monk
This ancient and secretive martial style is rumored to be one handed down from Ilmater himself. It emphasizes forms that focus on strikes to ki points and open-palmed attacks to minimize the chance of fatal blows. It is even rumored as one progresses upon this path that they are able to sense strong emotions and sever them from their projectors.
Open Hand Technique
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can manipulate your enemy’s ki when you harness your own. Whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects on that target:
- It must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
- It must make a Strength saving throw. If it fails, you can push it up to 15 feet away from you.
- It can’t take reactions until the end of your next turn.
Wholeness of Body
At 6th level, you gain the ability to heal yourself. As an action, you can regain hit points equal to three times your monk level. You must finish a long rest before you can use this feature again.
Empathy
Beginning at 11th level, you learn to channel your ki to reach out and touch the feelings of those around you. You may cast detect thoughts by spending a ki point. Additionally, as an action, you may help a willing target sever the emotion. This does not remove the emotion but rather severs it for a short time to allow the subject to heal and deal with it healthily.
Sever Emotions
At 17th level, you gain the ability to have a particularly strong emotion evoked with a target. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 2 ki points to evoke these emotions, which last for a number of hours equal to your monk level. The emotions are harmless unless you use your action to cause them to become overwhelming. To do so, you and the target must be on the same plane of existence. When you use this action, the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw. If it fails, it is stunned for a number of turns equal to your proficiency. If it succeeds, it takes 10d10 psychic damage. If you strike the target with an unarmed attack while the creature is stunned you may spend 1 ki point to eject and sever the emotion from the target. The emotion manifests for a brief moment as a projected image that the DM may choose. The projection may speak but cannot move or interact physically with anything until you sever it.
You can have only one creature under the effect of this feature at a time. You can choose to end the emotions harmlessly without using an action.
