Base Class: Artificer
The art of explosions is often overlooked by most, but not to a pyrotechnician. Pyrotechnicians craft many explosives typically with the spectacle in mind. Their art is usually in the form of fireworks, but they can also craft firecrackers and other colorful explosives. While they usually seek to use their craft and magic to entertain others, it is not unheard of for a pyrotechnician to use this ability for their own gain.
Explosive Understanding
3rd-level Pyrotechnician
You have gained a great understanding of your craft. You can cast the pyrotechnics spell without using a spell slot and even if it is not prepared. Once this feature is used, it cannot be used again until the end of a long rest. You also gain proficiency in the performance skill.
Pyrotechnician Spells
3rd-level Pyrotechnician feature
You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Pyrotechnician Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Spectacle Crafting
3rd-level Pyrotechnician feature
You have learned to make specialized magic explosives. When you finish a long rest, you craft one of your unique creations. Choose one of the following types of explosives.
Explosive Types
- Firework: The explosive flies up to 60 feet to a point of your choosing and explodes in a 5-foot diameter sphere.
- Firecracker: The explosive detonated in a 15-foot cone in front of the user.
- Sparker: The explosive is buried in the ground, and can be magically detonated by the crafter as an action as long as they are within 100 feet. It explodes in a 10-foot diameter sphere.
- Cherry Bomb: The explosive can be lit and thrown up to 30 feet. At the beginning of your next turn the explosive detonates in a 15-foot diameter sphere.
You also choose one of the following explosion types. These explosions are typically colorful and loud. Any saving throws have a DC equal to your spell save DC.
Explosion Types
- Sparkle: The explosive erupts into sparks of flame. Anyone within the explosion must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 fire damage. On a save, they take no damage.
- Dazzle: The explosive detonates in a brief but captivating flash. Anyone in the explosion must make a Wisdom saving throw or be blinded and deafened until the end of your next turn. Anyone within 20 feet of the explosion must also make a Wisdom saving throw but may do so with advantage. Any ally made aware of the explosion that is not in the area does not need to make the save.
- Dud: The explosion goes off but does not emit colorful sparks, instead it releases a black cloud within the area. The cloud obscures vision and dissipates after 1d4 turns.
- Faerie: The explosion erupts into brilliant colors. Any creature in the explosion must make a dexterity saving throw. On a failed save the target emits dim light that is the same color of the explosion for one minute. Glowing creatures may make a Wisdom saving throw to stop glowing at the start of their turn to stop glowing. Objects in the explosion automatically fail and also emit dim light. Attacks made against the glowing creatures have advantage.
- Forceful: The explosion goes off with a loud bang. Anyone within the explosion must make a Strength saving throw to avoid being pushed 10 feet away, and anyone within 20 feet of the explosion must make a Wisdom saving throw to avoid being deafened. Any ally made aware and is not within the explosion does not need to make the Wisdom save.
- Deaf: The explosion makes a soft pop and emits colorful cinders through the area. For 1 minute, the area within the explosion forcibly remains silent as the cinders hold in the air.
When you reach 5th level, you can craft two explosives when using this feature, and three explosives at 9th level.
Optimized Blast
5th-level Pyrotechnician feature
You have developed a new technique when using your art. When you set off one of your crafted pyrotechnics, you can alter aspects of the explosion. Choose one of the following aspects to add
- Modified: The explosion emits a different experimental spark. Choose one of the following damage types: Fire, Frost, Acid, Radiant, Lightning, Force, or Bludgeoning. If the explosion would normally deal damage, the damage type is changed to the chosen type and an additional damage die is granted. If the explosion does not deal damage it now deals 1d8 damage of the chosen type. This damage is considered magical when accounting for resistances.
- Big: The explosion is larger. If the explosion is a sphere it's radius is increased by 10 feet, and if it's a cone it's length is increased by 15 feet.
- Dedicated: The explosion makes a pattern of an image a target likes and grants an inspiration die to an ally of your choosing that can see it. 1d8 at 5th level, 1d10 at 10th level, and 1d12 at 15th level.
- Dull: The explosion is silent and unnoticed to anyone not paying enough attention. If the explosion type does not involve making light or colors you can choose to also make the sparks dim.
You can use this feature an amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and gain all uses back when you take a long rest.
Extra Compartment
9th-level Pyrotechnician feature
You've learned a new trick with your explosives. Now when you create an explosive you can add a second explosion. You may choose the same explosion type twice. If you use your Optimized Blast feature, both explosions gain the same effect.
Finale
15th-level Pyrotechnician feature
Your training has yielded results and you have perfected your technique in the art of pyrotechnics. As a bonus action, you can make a performance check, when you do you summon fireworks equal to half the check rounded up. These conjured fireworks have the same effect as a crafted firework, but they must all be fired at once and disappear after two minutes. Setting the fireworks off counts as an action, but they may target different points of your choosing. The fireworks have random explosion types as well as random effects from Optimized Blast. If you spend a minute without firing these fireworks, you may choose their effects. To choose random effects, roll a d6 for the explosion and a d4 for the optimization. Use the table to determine the effects.
