I'm guessing I've missed this in the vast library of threads and posts. If so, please point the way. As a long-time player, the most important tool for me when I DM is to have a quick reference to certain information about the PCs. In 5e, the most obvious thing to know is Passive Perception but several other items would be good to have handy as well. Taking into account all that DnDB brings to the table and all the things I've seen mentioned as coming down the pike, this is the one thing I can think of that seems to be missing. I want a single screen for my campaign's PCs that lists key details that I can reference without keying players off to something happening going on. That secret door they just passed without searching for it? I want my character with a high passive perception to be "rewarded" with his natural ability to notice this sort of thing without saying, "Hey, what's your passive perception again?" or clicking away on my laptop. One screen - key details - keeps us all immersed.
One up this: Add a simple "messenger" feature where I can push a notification to a player who is at the table with his tablet with a quick note: "You sense something is not quite right about the book case". A friend is using text messages on our phones in a similar manner for a modern rpg we're playing. Far better than passing notes or doing something else that draws attention to the fact that someone at the table knows something the others don't for something relatively minor.
In a pinch: On the campaign page, under "Active Characters", I have their image, name, class, level, and race. Add Passive Perception, current Hit Points (with an auto-refresh option for that page?) and maybe a couple of other key items.
Wouldn't the Private Message feature suit this request for sending a notification to a player? These notifications can be enabled to email immediately, which also displays said message in a user's email inbox.
I don't have any experience with the private message feature. It might work if DnDB notifies them immediately that they have a message without them having to go to email. None of us like the distraction of emails, etc, while we're playing. Even the text message trick is a bit distracting, especially when someone gets a non-game text and now everyone thinks he's up to something. ;)
D&D Beyond will certainly notify you immediately. However, if they remain on their character page and do not refresh, they may not see the notification bubble.
That's good to know. Thanks, Sedge. Would definitely be nice to have an auto-refresh similar to what ESPN does with in progress game scores...assuming I don't get loud, obnoxious ads between innnings, quarters, halves, and whatnot.
