I love the public and hidden notes and being able to freely access your players' sheets.
Would it be possible to add like, a bookmark feature for items, monsters, spells or rules pages. That way, you could set up certain monsters you know you're going to use in your next session, prep a table of magic items that your team may appreciate or fit your story, other things like that.
Maybe additionally letting you add characters you build as the DM to the campaign that players cannot see, for if you stated up the big bad like a character, he would be saved on the campaign as well, but hidden.
It would keep you from having to search so much and gives the page some additional functionality that I at least would use.
I love everything about this post. I would add another to it: Encounter building and management. Even if my players connected online can't see it. Easy ways to track HP, statuses, initiative. If my players can see a map (even moving their character's around it) I want to be able to click on the icon of a monster and a quick window pops up with that monster's info. Sure, I'll have a monster manual at my side, but when I have multiple different monsters working together (Hobgoblins commanding goblins with enslaved kobold trappers or archers, plus there are ochre jellies stuck to the ceiling dropping down on ALL of them for fun.) swapping pages and tracking HP with monsters becomes time consuming. I don't want my players seeing HP bars (like in roll20), instead I want a percentage based system to show my players how the monsters have changed (a goblin image changes to a bloody goblin at 30% HP, or even a simple descriptor that says "bloodied" or "slightly grazed")
I also want to be able to modify specific monsters in my encounter building. If I roll random horde treasure and a magic sword comes up, I don't want the Orc chieftain who owns that treasure to be stuck with his default weapon. I want him to make the party EARN that sword, and I'd want that reflected in the encounter built, in case I plan WAY ahead and forget, or I share the content with all of you awesome people.
Still, Daplunk's got the good ideas and I second them.
The ability to activate/replace rulesets. For instance, if I wanted to homebrew a different magic system, like spell points/mana instead of spell slots. And other instances like this. (I completely understand that something like this would probably really difficult to implement) But the ability to create or utilize replacement ruleblocks for different aspects of the game where it might be applicable to the character manager. Kind of like we have the ability now to use encumbrance or not. Only more involved.
A way to categorize information about the world I've built. I.E. management of locations and NPCs and important info on cities. That kind of stuff. Especially if it were possible to upload a picture of a world map and then be able to tag locations with a name and all the relevant info for those locations in a drop down and a link to a location page.
NPC management. The ability to create fully realized NPCs and plot them in locations and aaaalllll that jazz for recurring or preemptive use.
A shared party inventory system that all the players can see. For instance, if they party has a wagon train I would like them to be able to use stuff and manage inventory between themselves and the shared inventory. A player could say, "Oh, we'll probably need to bring 'x' along with us.", and then be able to pull that item from the shared inventory into their own inventory. And where those inventories are located. (eg. if the party has a wagon inventory and also a bank vault in some town.)
A quick reference page for player information for the DM. Like a page where the DM can state what information he wants to see for each of the characters in case they need to reference it quickly and without alerting the player. Stuff like passive perception, HP, sight types, etc.
An encounter builder and manager, which it sounds like that's already been mentioned as being in development.
Quick click random generators for encounters, loot, traps. Something where you just plug in party level and number of players and boom, insta-made. For those tight spots where things didn't go the way you anticipated.
any chance on a sneak peak of what the new campaign manager will look like and what it will include? I've seen an encounter builder be mentioned as in the works, and little tidbits here and there, but any idea how things will work? Also is anything be released with launch, or is it just post launch?
As a DM, I'm loving the compendium, monster, items, and spell listings (so quick and easy to search/find items) but the next biggest thing is somewhere other than onenote to manage my campaign, and that being in the same spot as the searchable database you created would be excellent.
I'm hoping to be able to link to spells/items/monsters from within the campaign manager as well, so hopefully this isn't something left out (this way I could prep a session, list the monsters and loot I want to use and easily have their stat blocks available on my private campaign page, rather than having to open each one in the search prior to or during the session).
Unfortunately, whilst I appreciate you'd just like an idea of what's in there, you'll have noticed from the feedback threads that many people don't read posts or release notes, so there would instantly be a large amount of negative feedback about a "half finished feature"
In Campaign Mgmt, what's the difference between deactivating a character and removing a character?

In Campaign Mgmt, what's the difference between deactivating a character and removing a character?
Deactivating a character allows you to gain 1 character slot for your campaign. You can recover the character anytime. I guess the deactivated character can see the public notes in your campaign.
I still remain in total incomprehension when WOTC's strategic choice on application development.
The applications are first developed for the players and then for the game master.
How much work is needed to create a character in front of colosal work to create a campaign.
Without game master, no players.
All of your effort should go to the tools needed to create campaigns and adventures.
This is just my point of view, after 35 years of gaming, I know only one software capable of carrying all the tools indispensable to the management of a campaign. A tool designed for the fourth edition of dungeon and dragon.
Masterplan
Take a look :
Unfortunately the software is no longer available online but I have a copy if you want to test it.

Even a screen shot or two would be cool, like we've seen recently with the CoS adventure content. Pretty please? :)

That's what I was hoping for haha. I figure though, if that happens it will happen a week or two before it is launched (the CoS screenshot was just recently shown, then the pricing for the modules and such was announced).

Keep in mind that the vast majority of D&D players are just that - Players only. Far fewer are DMs. Developing tools the players can use for reference and character creation makes those tools useful to a far greater number of consumers than DM tools alone and absolutely needed to be developed first. The campaign management portion of DDB will come in good time, growing and developing as the player-facing tools have, and I look forward to seeing and using them. I don't have any experience with other things like Realm Works or Masterplan, and it's clear that at this point, DDB doesn't even come close. Let's give them some time to see what comes of it, eh?
I fully understand the economic model. More players, more dollard and dollars are needed to develop tools.
But in my experience, the game master is the one who tells the players what tools to use.
I posted on the forum to help the GM community get an efficient and powerful tool and allow WOTC to take the time to develop it.

Thanks, Nixo. As I said, Masterplan looks like a powerful tool, and I certainly hope that over time the developers here can build something that proves to be just as useful so that we have everything we need on one platform. It certainly doesn't hurt to share what you have found useful from other software, in order to make this one better!
I've just been using Evernote for organizing a writing project and found their tag system very useful. Being able to add tags to notes (which ideally would be sorted via a nested folder system) would be very useful.
Probably a long shot, but being able to export the notes to a printable format could be useful, but not sure if that would be within the scope of this project.

I would like a status checkbox: available to characters?
Reason: create magic item, assign to NPC, let it use, but party cannot see. Then when party defeats NPC/monster, check the box and character can add to sheet.

Other Players just see (4) basic tabs i.e. (Member, Posts, Threads, and Followers) they can click on to see additional details within those tabs.
Will this area have additional tabs or the ability to create custom tabs upon full release?
The big selling point for me in using this site is not just aid in playing D&D and having the rules and character builder but just as important is to link up or connect with other D&D gamers. A lot of posts are DM's announcing games and and players looking for games be they local games, online virtual games or play-by-post games which seems fairly popular on this site.
This is no different than people posting career profiles and/or full resumes at a some online jobsite. It would be nice if players could use that area to work up a more complete gaming profile for themselves with additional tabs (for example).
| Member | Gaming Bio | Profiled Characters | Posts | Threads | Followers|
Gaming Bio could just allow space for a player to information regarding their playing and or DM experience as much or as little as they care to provide as well as the types of games they are looking for or open to joining be it local games, online virtual games or play-by-post games etc. as kind of their resume they don't have to keep repeating ourselves in individual posts in looking for games areas and such. Players can reply to a recruiting post as they will then a GM or other players if interested and curious for more details can check the user profile for their gaming bio, if empty this can also help a DM decide who is more motivated and prepared. As well GM's can at their will instead of or in addition to posting recruitment ads can just choose to view this and other tabs and cherry pick who they would like to invite into their games.
Profiled Characters are just that characters a player has created on the site and is looking to run in a campaign. It would not be all their characters but just the one or ones that they are especially proud of and want to show off or want to run. Those already in play can be excluded from showing up. In the character sheet put in a checkbox“Profile Character” to show the player is wanting to share and play with character, if not checked character sheet does not show up in profile area as a selection to view.
Sample of Play can be an area for a writing sample a player makes up as a showing off writing and imagination or just a cut and paste from a say PbP thread of his character interacting with other players etc. as little or as much as player desires the idea is to show advertise oneself and show one's motivation, creativity and such to DM's instead of just having DM's look at someone's thread and random and land on something less than stellar.
Just a thought anyway and could prove helpful to many players and DM's alike.
Is there a way to make char sheets (or at least portions of it) hidden from other players within the same campaign? For example, I have a player whose background reveals a treasonous behavior, but the rest of the players have no idea about it. If they learn about this, the RP part could be biased because of this knowledge, and I would like to avoid this sort of metagaming.

I started off using Masterplan and agree that is was a damn nice tool. When it became Vaporware I went in search of a replacement.
Mate Realm Works does everything that Masterplan did for me plus much much more. Might be worth checking out since Masterplan is dead.
