The primary purpose come launch in a few weeks is to allow a DM to share content to all the players in a campaign to save purchasing costs for the content.
I'm not sure if this is "news" but it sounds much sooner and more concrete than "sometime this summer".
Here is thought for you guys for the future.. may have been mentioned but...
How about changing up the game a little? A living sandbox campaign that operates like a choose your own adventure on the dm side with blocks of content that get delivered to the campaign. You could track the game by session. Random world events that are attached to later plots can happen each session.
Makes it a bit of fun for the dm
what do you guys think?
I'm not following what you're suggesting here. Are you saying the DM writes the content and then the party gets content delivered based on their choices or the DM gets random content delivered to them to use with the party? This sounds like content, not campaign management tools. Could you clarify what you're suggesting please?
I.am suggesting that Curse could also create modular campaign content. Like a living campaign timeline, events can be used on your own campaign You could advance as quickly or as slowly along the timeline as you want, so it could be either additional content that you use as world filler..or you could base your whole campaign around it.
Ahhhh I think I got you now. I doubt Curse will get into the campaign creation game, however I could see WotC and 3rd party books (e.g. Out of the Abyss, Storm King, etc) along with home brew/DMs Guild creators having the ability to import campaign modules complete with monsters and items down the road.
I'd love to be able to add maps and things like that. My game is in Waterdeep. Being able to stick a map in there would be super useful.
Agree, the ability to load maps and pin out the locations while linking it to content related to that location is key. It's one of the primary reasons I use Realm Works for my campaign management.
OK, so I'm not going to get into what the feature doesn't have yet, because there's a lot and everybody else has lots of good suggestions. So far I have:
1) Created a campaign file, named it, and entered a description;
2) Written a test message in "Private Notes";
3) Invited myself to add a character to the campaign and done so.
All of these features work fine. I have been able to edit the aforementioned character via the campaign page, but I suspect that's only because both campaign and character are under the same user account.
OK, I will suggest one feature. I was a bit surprised to find that, having added a character to my campaign, there was no indication on the character's sheet (or anywhere in the file) that the character was participating in that campaign. Such a feature could be convenient, even if it's not super functional.
Tried to add a second character to my make-believe campaign and found that the invite link was single-use only. Does this mean that, if you sent a single invite to multiple recipients, whoever used the link first would be added to the campaign and the other recipients would get a 404 when they followed it? Or would they all be allowed to join because the responses were coming from different sources?
Further experimentation reveals that an invite is not strictly single use; I was able to add third character using the link in my second invitation. Do the links expire, then?

Off memory from the testing I did last week, it was expiring if you made changes to the campaign.

Aaand bingo. Added a public note, saved changes, and *bing* new invite code. Thanks!
EDIT: I'm not a huge fan of enabling DM editing privileges on character sheets, but it would be very convenient to let DMs update experience for the whole party at once.

I think you could have some really interesting story hooks from including the ability to edit PC sheets. Imagine having an enemy guild slip a stone of tracking into a players pocket. You make the change on their sheet and simply never tell them. If they notice it then they discover it. Alternatively the enemy guild continues to know where they are.

Plus, players are so slack about keeping their characters up to date or filling in all details. At least mine are.

"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
Trying to really use the campaign management, if nothing else just to keep notes for the players on the sessions but the single use link is terrible. Not all my players have joined my campaign yet so reaching out to them with a link is fine but the fact that I have to keep updating the link or just stop making notes is dumb. A single link for the campaign should be instituted.
rather than make a thousand posts I'll just make a list. First off. Thanks Curse, what you're crafting here is gonna end up being super useful once completed:
REPORT #1--yesyes now that i see the diff section i'll sep my reports into those mega threads. For now this is what it is cuz i'm at work. Sorry.
-I would VERY MUCh like to be able to click on a monster i want in an encounter and it auto populate an encounter list. So i can build and save/ref encounters. -Character sheet: the XP redundancy is confusing the Queen'sDrawers out of my PCs. i'm having to go in and correct it everytime. I'm not understanding the data purpose for two feilds to type in 'xp gained'. the first one seems unnessecary. -NOTICES OF NEED: I need a section/list/field to place monsters chosen, maps, and at least 30 NPC list/stat blocks
-CRITIQUE: typically THE FIRST thing done when generating a character is picking race/class then ROLLING for ability scores. How do you know what you want to "increase" when it comes time for ASI if you have to choooooose which scores to increase first. As you have it here in BUILDER, the PCs have to arbitrarily CHOOSE which scores they MIGHT want to increase later BEFORE 'rolling' for Ability Scores. Bass-Akwards. Keep it simple. Roll/point buy fisrt then offer ASI dropdown options. -KUDO: the usability of the sheets during play....really cool. -Can't choose 'friends','create/destroy water' , 'chromatic orb', 'ray of sickness' FOR our WIZARD PC on the dropdown window dialogue. Shows as "not found". -Question: are the spell lists locked to certain classes because i have a party of PCs learning from the world around them and NPCs sharing knowledge. I AM using a learning curve mechanic for those PCs trying to learn spells outside of their "SCHOOL" but i seems i cannot include spells from just any'ole where.....and i'd like to. -when creating the campaign, I'd like to be able to create 1. Current Encounter, Possible Encounter lists. nothing major as i work on the fly ALOT. but other toolsets i've used include at least "encounter area: Forest", "Encounter type: side quest, combat", Encountering: Awakened shrub, blink puppy, vine trap, secret entrance to dungeon".
**READ SOME POSTS a moment ago...I UNDERSTAND MORE CAMPAIGN TOOLS ARE COMING but my notes still stand. For posterity.
It would be wonderful to have a way for the DM to add NPCs (including stats, class, health, skills, etc. Basically a PC, but set to NPC status) to a campaign, especially ones of note for keeping track of.
I also agree with the posts above discussing the DM ability to edit character sheets. I feel that would be a very helpful feature.
As others have said, campaign management (even though it's noted it's just it's starting "format" with really nothing added) is very underwhelming. I'm confident we will see a pretty awesome product, as other sections have developed super nice over time. This is what beta is for, right?
That being said, I want to submit a wishlist for campaign management:
Build a private forum into the campaign, for the DM to manage and PC's to chat/talk, and a longshot but if possible even more of an instant messenger than a forum
Have a calendar/scheduling feature -- I want to be able to schedule a session on a calendar (date/time/place, and notes i.e. who is bringing the snacks?, meeting at table 3 in Room A at the D&D gamers lounge, don't forget your spell cards!, etc)), and have the Players maybe check a box on if they can attend or not, and even have a "proposed new time" option for them to suggest a time that works better (Think MS Outlook Calendar features)
In addition to the calendar, maybe a way to have an announcement/banner on the campaign page when players and the DM go to it, customizable by the DM (I can enter a banner message for the game)
Some sort of notification option/setting, customizable by each D&D Beyond user on a campaign by campaign basis -- I want to be able to set D&D Beyond to send me an email notification if a campaign I am in has an update posted, but I also want to be able to turn it off as I know not everyone likes something like that. Additionally it should be campaign by campaign, I might want campaign A to give me notifications, but campaign B only meets monthly/every 6 weeks and I don't need a notification for that (or vice versa). Like with D&D itself, customization and options are everything!
Either have separate sections/tabs or give the DM the ability to create sections/tabs for campaign related things like NPC's encountered, villages/towns, ongoing/past story lines/plots, events/milestones, campaign/homebrewed rules/DM rulings
For the notes section, having a private and a public separate is a great idea, but add the ability to have collapsible sections as others have suggested -- I want to be able to note things that happened in the visit to Neverwinter separate from the visit to Waterdeep, separate from fighting the Red Dragon in it's lair.
Also having a spot to perhaps put in campaign related items, like a note they discovered on an NPC, or the very strange skeleton key they found -- can be stored in a shared "treasure" or "home base" by the PC's, and view its description in the campaign page.
Also -- the ability to specify a rule in your campaign to designate the XP model used (milestone or XP); If I set milestone in the campaign, all characters who join the campaign should have their character sheets automatically updated to reflect the campaign setting.

I'm not actually sure what you mean by this.
The link is purely for invitation purposes. Any public notes that you add to a campaign will be viewable by the players in that campaign. The players can find the campaign itself in their My Campaigns section.

He's talking about having to generate a new link after every edit he makes in his campaign.
Exactly, if I find a typo and correct it or even add private DM notes and I have a player that hasn't joined yet they get a 404 error. The constantly changing link is fine if all your players joined immediately and you never have a guest. Otherwise you are sending new links with every minor change.

Good to know, its not a huge ordeal but it is annoying for getting all your players on here.
Confirmed that was fixed. Was never intended behavior. Thanks for reporting!
