If I remember correctly somebody mentioned during SoA, or in some other talk, that DDB will not include a virtual table and that there might be some kind of integration between DDB and Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds. I tried the forum search but I did not find any useful information.
Has anybody any information how this might look? Will there just be an export function that allows us to import characters to Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds? What about adventures?
I do like the idea that DDB will be a tool that helps us at the table when we play our favourite game, but these days we rely more and more on our digital tools. Instead of traveling hundreds of kilometres (yes, I am from Europe) to meet for a D&D session every two months, we sit down every two weeks and play from our homes using a VT.
I really like the tool so far, and I am looking forward to the next phase, but even if I am willing to pay again for all my books, and I have all of them (except for the one nobody wants), I am not willing to pay twice for the same digital content and I wonder: Should I subscribe to a tool that helps me 6 times a year or one that lets me play every two weeks?
I mean, you announced a Twitch integration for DDB but you do not have any plans for a VT? That´s kind of odd, is it not?
Plans haven't been revealed yet, but the D&D Beyond staff said that they have been meeting with 3rd party companies about integration, including Roll20.
Fantasy Grounds Ultimate License holder, so anyone can play in my games! I've been playing RPGs for around 20 years now and have never looked back. I've played Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Dungeons & Dragons 2nd & 4th Edition, Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun 2nd & 5th Edition, Tales of the Floating Vagabond, Pendragon 4th Edition, Pathfinder, Warhammer FRPG 2nd Edition, Star Wars D6/d20/Saga/FFG, Robotech (Palladium), and various other homemade systems.
I would love to see this integrate with Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds. My biggest frustration with the products available in these game tables is, in most cases, they want the full cover price for the product but I am only able to use it in this one environment. At least with a printed copy I can use it wherever I choose easily. D&D Beyond is also similar in this way, allowing me to reference my material easily while in a home game that is using no digital game table, or when playing online with one of these products. Taking it a step further and being able to easily look up a new piece of equipment and drag it onto a character's sheet to make it available to them would be amazing. And the homebrew features to allow easily adding a new item, spell, etc.. and use it across multiple games is something Roll20 is currently lacking in my opinion. Maybe the top level subscription lets you do it but not the free or mid leve subscription.
I would be happy if the digital book purchases worked across all the platforms. If I bought a book on DDB, it transfers to Roll 20 and/or Fantasy Grounds and visa versa. This is the one benefit I could see to purchasing a digital copy of a book I already own.

As much as I would love to see that too, I cannot see that happening. These are three different products and FG and Roll20 want to make some money too. I could imagine that some kind of import/export/adapter feature might be part of a subscription on FG or Roll20 or must be bought as an extension.
A VTT for D&D Beyond would be awesome. Could be Roll20, FG or from Curse.
That's how I feel about this tool In general. It seems robust and cool but my group plays purely online because schedules and distance made face to face so irregular that it wasn't worth it.
If it doesn't integrate with roll20 I have little practical use for it
Two things need to happen before D&D Beyond becomes the standard. A VTT (virtual table top) API (application programming interface) and an offline content capable mobile app. Then the dollars will start to flow. The D&D Beyond feature survey shows that an official VTT is a low priority. It's nice that WotC partners with a VTT get API integration, but some of those VTTs are extremely outdated in terms of graphics technology and capability that can deliver an amazing D&D experience. Why is dynamic lighting an issue in 2017? The best thing Curse could do is provide an API to all developers to encourage the innovation of virtual table tops to improve the online D&D experience using D&D Beyond. Bungie did this with Destiny and it resulted in inventory management apps that gave players very powerful tools that improved everyone's gaming experience.
I agree. I'm still a little new to D&D Beyond and Roll20. I don't want to pay $200+ at D&D Beyond only to not be able to use any of that in Roll20. Once I understand how I can transfer my free D&D Beyond content over to Roll20 and use it, then I'll start buying the digital merchandise.
Just want to add my name here. I would LOVE integration with a VTT (Maybe Twitch/Amazon could just buy Roll20). That would really make dndbeyond the main place to go for online dnd. Add that some Twitch integration for streaming and it could own the online D&D space.
id' be great if it was from fantasy ground. i prefer that one over roll20.

The integration of what you buy from here into a Virtual TableTop is definitely a 100% good idea.
I tried to run a campaign, with character sheets from dndbeyond, and on roll20 in the same hand, but that slows the game dynamic so much that my players were just bored to have 2 distinct website for their campaign. The campaign management and character sheet management from dndbeyond are just so great and well made, that's just sad we can't use it properly for online VTT gaming, since dndbeyond is supposed to be THE digital d&d.
Is there any update on this yet? I use DDB to generate most of my NPC's, because it's just a matter of clicking a couple of buttons, and almost everything is done. Then the complicated part, is plugging all that info into the character sheets on Roll20. Being able to export to Roll20 would be perfect, and you'd pretty much have a random NPC within a few minutes, instead of having to have a bunch ready for whatever occasion, or planning on where to put them.

I think D&D Beyond is planning on creating a Roll20 type virtual table top for us to play on. The D&D Beyond will be the go to place to play any D&D games. It only takes me about 30 minutes to get a character transferred over from D&D Beyond to Roll20. I'm good with that.
