I see, so I take that to mean that they want me to purchase the digital copies of PHB/DMG/SCAG/etc to be able to access this content? or does the monthly subscription unlock it? or do I need to get both?
Hi there Vod_ika,
welcome to the D&D Beyond forums. You should find all the answers you are looking for in the D&D Beyond Pricing FAQ.
Could a moderator please put a link to the pricing FAQ (with something like "Why am I not seeing all of the race/class/feat options?") in the intro post in this thread? And/or pin something like that to the top of the forum?
And I still like my suggestion from before (and this is on-topic!): if a user hasn't purchased a PHB option, show it in gray below the others and have clicking on it go to the purchase page or to a FAQ. (But don't do this for other expansion material, because that would feel too much like constant upsell. Just the PHB — that should be enough.)

Yeah, but humans still shouldn't have access to the svirfneblin feat.
This keeps getting glossed over and I've been wondering why the builder shows this as well.
Because the builder still has the flexibility of allowing a DM to grant that feat to a non Svirfnerblin. If it was locked down, then a DM couldn't allow it. That's the case with a number of elements within the builder, it still has to allow flexibility for the DM to grant things.

I'd much rather the builder follow the rules. Then have the ability for the DM to make exceptions, rather than the exceptions be the default.

why now make 2 options when using the character builder that you can chose from ... Rules enforced / fully open ... that way if you want to play with the strict rules you can without making error if your not sure what you can or cant do.

What if there were a switch like "allow homebrew content" for things like this: "allow nonstandard combinations" or "don't enforce prereqs"? This could allow feats with this kind of restriction, and maybe also multiclassing when the prerequisites aren't met?

This is the path we're taking, starting with the racial feats in Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

A lot of these restrictions i keep seeing people want in the builder, along with a lot of the features, seem to want to take work off the DM and Player, which I am for, but there needs to be a limit. At some point a DM should be reviewing character sheets, there should be communication, and players shouldn't be trying to take a feat without checking the prerequisites. I know there are all sorts of play styles and especially if someone is knew it's a great feature to have to get them playing asap, but it just feels like if it did all the work for us, it would be a video game and not D&D any longer.
We'll see, I am sure I would love some of these features once implemented, but I am worried about my players becoming too dependent on the system telling them what is allowed instead of learning for themselves. (Although making sure the sheet is right is one of the things I love the most about Beyond, so I'm a bit of a hypocrite too lol)

I respectfully disagree. I've taught almost two dozen brand new players how to play D&D. I really want them to create the character they want to play without having to acquire system mastery first. That's why I'm so excited about D&D Beyond's character builder. It'll be really convenient.
If we have this lovely program that lets them break all the rules and I have to go back into their character sheets and say, 'no, that's wrong. you can't do that. sorry, that's not really an option,' that'd be demoralizing. I've had to do it with paper character sheets and it's not fun for the player or me, the DM.

ok so if i understand its going to be like a all you can eat ...you do what ever you want .... so saying that its like ... UA test is there for nothing ... those rules and class etc.. been tested so the balance of the game is still good for playing ... i think you guys should just make 3 options on the character creation for the rules enforcer grp DMs players that want follow and to play D&D rules / the one who want to play AL legal this is more restrictive within the D&D rules / and those who want to play what ever character they want with some what ever rules they want that you can call it what ever you want because at some point it wont be D&D anymore .... dont get me wrong homebrew is good when you need to create something that is not available and doest exist but its the DMs who will get it introduce in his game so hes responsable for this. But let players create what ever they want mean DMs who want to play the good old D&D will have to know every single bit of info on every class/race etc... to make sure their player not make something absurd that will screw their entire game.
Maybe someone has already said this. When you update the character builder and printing of sheets can you make it so check boxes are added to printed sheets for features like action surge, bardic inspiration and wild shape? Something that allows folks to track these abilities with a pencil that they can erase. This would be helpful. Thanks! Haven't been seeing a ton of posts from the BadEye so I assume that means you guys have been busy at work on new changes for this great product in development :)

yeah was wandering the same about BadEye since its been over 3 weeks from the last video he did and he said they would fix some of the inventory stuff within 2-3 weeks no info since ... dunno whats going on...probably having some problemes there or just too much other important stuff to work on so it get delayed . but i think the community would have been happy to know how works going .. some people also asked about the grung race and no news there .guess we will have to wait in the next developer stream in 3 days the 20th
Not gonna lie a little disappointing to see changelog updates every 2-3 days, then a 10-day gap (so you’re hoping for aomething big) with the newest update being only a slight modification to a dice roller useful only to those select few who pbp on this site.

Why does variant human only get access to 2 feats? one of them isn't even a human feat.
D&D Beyond can be used for free and contains information from the following "free to use" sources published by Wizards of the Coast: D&D 5th edition SRD, D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, and Elemental Evil Companion.
Content from other sources, such as the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual, will need to be purchased from the Marketplace or accessed via another user sharing content with you via their Master Tier Subscription.
Yeah, but humans still shouldn't have access to the svirfneblin feat.
