Because the builder still has the flexibility of allowing a DM to grant that feat to a non Svirfnerblin. If it was locked down, then a DM couldn't allow it. That's the case with a number of elements within the builder, it still has to allow flexibility for the DM to grant things.
What if there were a switch like "allow homebrew content" for things like this: "allow nonstandard combinations" or "don't enforce prereqs"? This could allow feats with this kind of restriction, and maybe also multiclassing when the prerequisites aren't met?
A lot of these restrictions i keep seeing people want in the builder, along with a lot of the features, seem to want to take work off the DM and Player, which I am for, but there needs to be a limit. At some point a DM should be reviewing character sheets, there should be communication, and players shouldn't be trying to take a feat without checking the prerequisites. I know there are all sorts of play styles and especially if someone is knew it's a great feature to have to get them playing asap, but it just feels like if it did all the work for us, it would be a video game and not D&D any longer.
We'll see, I am sure I would love some of these features once implemented, but I am worried about my players becoming too dependent on the system telling them what is allowed instead of learning for themselves. (Although making sure the sheet is right is one of the things I love the most about Beyond, so I'm a bit of a hypocrite too lol)
I respectfully disagree. I've taught almost two dozen brand new players how to play D&D. I really want them to create the character they want to play without having to acquire system mastery first. That's why I'm so excited about D&D Beyond's character builder. It'll be really convenient.
If we have this lovely program that lets them break all the rules and I have to go back into their character sheets and say, 'no, that's wrong. you can't do that. sorry, that's not really an option,' that'd be demoralizing. I've had to do it with paper character sheets and it's not fun for the player or me, the DM.
we actually agree, because I did say that for new players it is great and summarized for this very reason. It doesn't mean there aren't drawbacks, such as long term there is less incentive for players to learn their characters well, which even with these tools, can slow down a game.

Not gonna lie a little disappointing to see changelog updates every 2-3 days, then a 10-day gap (so you’re hoping for aomething big) with the newest update being only a slight modification to a dice roller useful only to those select few who pbp on this site.
There's big stuff coming, just hold your britches - as my mom used to say.

we know its coming but the question is WHEN ... 1 week 1 month 6 month 2 years lol we all want more and can hardly stay calm ;)

sorry I always come off as grouchy -- I often react quickly and post annoyed, but then think about it for a little while and realize it's really not a big deal or a problem later. I love the product for sure and use it daily, I just can't wait for some of the features that are way off in the future (campaign management)
I remember hearing that homebrew feats are planned. Would you project that DMs will be able to pass homebrew feats to players (or allow them to select the feat) whenever needed? As quest rewards or downtime training rewards or what-not? Specifically, I enjoy this "mini-feats" product from DM's Guild (author: Dragonix) and imagine the ability to add/bestow homebrew feats at will.
Follow-up question if homebrew feats are not on the roadmap and I mis-remembered: do you see that as something viable? What challenges might come with implementing such a feature/ability?
Thanks for reading - I like D&D Beyond, use it almost daily, and suggest it to friends. Y'all do great work.
I know that feats were downplayed after 3.5 and 4th, and honestly we haven't used a ton of them in our games so far. One here and there is about it. That being said, I really can't wait to see the answer to this question, as I have an idea on at least a couple that would fit our world perfectly.

A player since the great Dawn War, I've seen every edition flash before my eyes. I've wandered the plateau of Mystara (before it was Mystara), had spiced elven tea with Dalamar, composed spells with Mordenkeinan, and walked the ruins of Myth Drannor with the great Elminster himself — though I believe he was a cat at the time —. The scrolls and books that I have read have filled me with intrigue and seeing all of the imaginative constructs that other people come up with give me great joy

Homebrew feats are certainly planned (and not too far off). As part of the revamp we're working on this year, the ability to add any number of feats and other features or traits will be included (even if it breaks RAW). This ability to customize will be a global setting.

Yeah, some other apps have a "validation" page that shows which rules you've broken (too many feats, too many spells, etc.)
Add in which sources you've used and that'd be a great start towards Adevnturer's League support.
changes released today are amazing. I just want to say thank you. then say it again. and again.
Adding packs is great -- One thing though, can we maybe get a preview of what's in the pack before adding it?
Being able to customize weapons and just click "Offhand" or "Silvered" is phenomenal
weight customization is great, can't wait for it to be available on all items (allowing those of us who play with rules that don't count weight for certain items to track properly)
with these changes, I thought of one other thing that could maybe be added and beneficial -- it isn't super necessary by any means and probably even kind of niche - but the ability to remove all equipment with one click would be pretty great.
Hmm, not sure if intentional, but when you change to hit or damage bonus on a weapon and then try to get it back to the previous state, the item retains the 'customised' tag even if it is identical to its 'vanilla' version. Only getting rid of it and adding a new item instance resets this.
Also 'to hit override' messes up with the original plus or minus to hit, and after taking it to zero again, the weapon does not gain the STR or DEX bonus back.

At a glance it's lookin good! I need to build more characters to really get a better feel of the changes.
One thing I thought of at a glance, is that it would be nice if you could shorten a rope by cutting it, which would mean being able to customize the length of a rope once you have it (with 50 being either the default or max of course.) I just think it could add because that's an item with a lot of uses both at full length and when broken apart into smaller ropes. Thank you, I hope to see it in the future, as everything you've done until this point was a godsend!

So I took a look at this one and I think I know what you are trying to do that is leaving the weapon in a Customized state. I believe you set a bonus of 0 in "to hit bonus"/"damage bonus" fields. Although this does technically make the weapon equal to what it was before, there is still a user specified value in those fields. If you want to revert back to the "original" item, you would actually just want to completely remove the value from that field which will then clear out the user customization.
In the case of "to hit override", it truly is an override of the value with nothing else considered. So dex/str bonuses or any modifiers will not be considered at all if this is set.
Let me know if this clears up what is happening for your case! Appreciate the feedback.

Bug? Broom of flying. Text says 50'. When added to sheet, says 40' in movement section and override will not raise it.
