...I don't understand how others are able to get us these features much faster than the actual team.
If you have played a game like World of Warcraft, I believe this kind of thing is easy to understand.
World of Warcraft developers have always been concerned with meeting the needs of the entire bell curve of players. For years and years, some part of the community couldn't rationalize why the WoW devs couldn't add in the "easy" functionality that community devs created as mods, such as inventory management or things like raid frames.
Over time, WoW incorporated those natively into the game (and if asked, they would say doing the dev work for those was "easy" to do). Those mods were important to validate community needs in order for the team to incorporate them in the first place. So things like the various Chrome extensions are great testing grounds for us just like those WoW mods were with the World of Warcraft devs.
I haven't played WoW in a long time (so this could be a bad example), but they never did add in the functionality from all the popular Auction House mods, even though people said it would be "easy" to do. I imagine there were a variety of reasons they didn't, and I would venture a guess a big part was bandwidth and prioritization.
This would be the same for us. Of course we could develop most of this functionality "easily" and quickly - we have very talented developers. But when the list on the roadmap is 1,000 things long, we must cover those things which we assess will provide the most value for the entire community.
Thanks!
On the contrary... Blizzard allowed mods in order for the people to do the features. They would only need to adapt it. Which is only 50%
As for the velocity thing...
I understand it... But seriously any developpers will tell you that if you really wanted features to come out... Wed have everything on that roadmap already. While the engines looks badly because im no designer. I can make features for my own softwares much faster then 6 months for 1 feature. Though i understand the company aspect and the fact that you have constraint to apply. But lets be honest... World of warcraft came to life in 3 years only. Videos. Programming and all... To me compared to that it is much easier to programm d&d.
That said. My problem is with things that seems to be about beauty of the site instead of the actual features. Like the character builder revamp which to me seems... A useless feature. I could understand the sheet revamp. But... Why having built something badly at first if it was to redesign it later? Seems to me like ddb was just badly done at first and now are losing a lot of time trying to remake it from the ground up.
But thats my 2 cents.
That said i love it and will continu to use it. Its just that i think in 2 years we havent gotten very far. And i cant wait to see whats gonna come this year.

Well, to be honest, I appreciate having the character builder and sheet that they created ever since I first discovered D&D Beyond. If they waited to introduce a character sheet/builder until it was "perfected" then we still may not have that. Things will always be updated, it's not a very fair argument to say that something needs to be perfected before it's released. Part of it is to release it and see what needs to be adjusted, which is what I feel like they have done. So I'm for one, glad they released it and then did a revamp, versus not releasing it for an extended amount of time.
And I definitely don't feel like it was "built badly", again it was released and updated due to feedback, which is what good developers do in my own opinion.
The character builder is fine as is. I feel like they are redoing it due to perfectionism which is something i hate in programming cause im in the category that waste a lot of time updating something i shouldnt.
The character builder is fine. And i saw nobody complain about it. I check the forum often and i see nobody complaining about it.
Campaign management thought, a ton of talk about it. Heck the 2018 still going. Well not since they made the 2019 thread. One could of thought that since critical role is a big sponsorship, they could at least help matt by adding the features they are promoting.
Exemple... The twitch extension is a major boost. Why not continu on that revenu and add campaign management ?
As a subber to ddb and a person willing to buy big... I feel cheated by the sub... There is literally 2 features to a sub. And only 1 feature to the minimum sub. No wonder people dont want to sub.
Sharing is big for sure. But subbing 10$ just for that is huge. Infinite character... Subbing 5$ for that is bullshit.
As an exemple... DCUO is a game where you have only 2 character slot. You buy anything from the marketplace and you get up to 6 slot. Then you sub for infinite if you want...
Here... 2 slot... Sub if you want more... Its not right and not encouraging the masses who preffer not to pay and have next to no incentive to sub.
Even though they are features i dont care about. They are big features that are needed... I get that and its fine. I dont care if they arent featurees ill use... But one could think... Why arent they supplying the dm they sponsor ? Those features would totally bring more from a company stand point.
Is all im saying.
Right now heres what i use ddb for...
Homebrew... Characters easy leveling... Compendium... But the most used feature of my group... Facebook ! Sorry but this shouldnt be. And im not in the minority here... Everyone uses literally other software to manage their game and in the end ddb is just a big character builder. I just wish there was things for dms that were actually useful. Other then sharing books
Anyway... Im up to about a dollar of two cents so i guess ill stop. 8D

We should all ask for character sheets to be available on the mobile apps. It's ridiculous that D&D Beyond doesn't already have this available.
They should make character creation and character viewing available for mobile apps.
I suspect that many people do not ask for the character sheet in the mobile app because the sheet already works well in a mobile browser and they don't need an app to get what they want.
That said, development is in progress to add the character sheet to the next phase of the mobile app beta. We will provide an update when we have one.
Add me to the group that the character sheet works fine in a browser. It wouwould be a little more convenient to have it on the mobile app but it's no where near the top of my list.
My personal concern is offline access.... Conventions often don't have free wi-fi and cell signal tends to be spotty at best.

Agreed. You also have to consider those who do not come on forum. Exemple of my 8 players who want offline access to character sheet.
Fact is... Forums are only 10% of the whole population of ddb. So tell your people to come vote.

I'd be curious to see in the next dev update a comparison of how many people use the current incarnation of the app versus how many people use the website in order to access the features available to both so it's a fair comparison.

They said often that most of their bandwidth is comind from desktops. So it has to be on the web from desktop view if seen on tablets and phones. Thing is... With LTE now a days and the fact ddb takes not much bandwidth... Its easy getting access even if you have no internet.

Hype wise it would be better for beyond not to tell us whats incoming. Because we all expect it next month at best. While they might be 3 months away still.
At this point id preffer only to know whats coming next month instead of knowing everything is on the 2019 roadmap.

Folks, there's a fallacy developing here that assumes the only gather feedback from vocal participants on the forums.
This is not the case.
We have a large variety of input points that we use to make decisions. The vocal component of those inputs (such as the feature requests voting portal), shows that a high number of a small percentage of overall DDB users would like to see the character sheet in the mobile app. We also pay as much attention to what is NOT being said when it comes to feedback. There are thousands and thousands of users that are not requesting the sheet be added to the app because the character management experience in a mobile browsers is sufficient/ good for them. We see they're using it actively via other analytics outside of the forums.
Good to know badeye... But my friends have no connections whatsoever with ddb aside from characters in my campaign and even more many dont want to use ddb at all. So i doubt you have them in your statistics. Hence why i said to others to make some word to ear promoting.
I do not doubt your stats. Merely saying that your stats are incomplete because of those not using the web as they should. In fact out of all 3 dms at the local gaming store. Only i use the web for stuff. Out of all the players... One group still use pen and paper. The other group have downloaded pdfs on their tablet and are fine with it. And my group i had to force into using ddb. Im not doubting your stats nor where they come from. But unless you have eyes like the cia or the nsa... I doubt you to know 100% of what people want. There is also the fact that most people who come here arent dms. So the majority are players who only want more character options.
This is all im saying. Words to ear please talk about ddb to your players and show them.
