Talion will wait cautiously outside the room before once again helping Ervan with any checks for secret doors or traps. When they are done, he tries to enlist Ervan's assistance in examining the jewelry box. Upon entering the parlour, he moves cautiously, looking for stuffed animals or suits of armour that might come to life. He seems jumpy and hesitant, the constant pressure and uncertainty beginning to take their toll.

You both check for traps or secrets but find nothing. As for the items on the vanity, the jewelry box is made of silver with gold filigree. It contains three gold rings and a thin platinum necklace with a topaz pendant. Talion, you make a quick appraisal and estimate that the box's worth to be around 75gp, the rings about 25gp each, and the platinum pendant - a really exquisite piece - could be around 750gp!
Talion whistles as he examines the pendant, "This....this..." he shakes his head, "...I've never seen anything like it -- at least, not close up!"
He stares at it a moment longer before he holds it up for everyone to see, "I know people who would kill their mother or their brother for this. Once, maybe, even..." he pauses and shakes his head. No, not even then. He draws a deep breath, "...such an item would attract too much unwanted attention. But here..." he says with a smile and a flourish, "...here, I think it's fair down-payment for time and suffering!"
"I suggest we keep it safe" he says, nodding in the direction of his chest. If there are no objections after his companions have examined the box and jewelry, he will place them carefully inside the chest.

Erven as well checks for traps and anything hidden in the room, but his interest is the mirrored door to the south, opposite the bed. If he does not detect anything, he will open the door.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
@Erven You don't notice anything strange about the door and you pull it open. It reveals a dust- and cobweb-choked room...looks like a closet. The clothes have nearly been eaten away by moths and wouldn't really be serviceable. You surmise you could possibly use them for torch material though...
As you are all searching through this room - moving things, talking, not being super quiet or anything - you hear scratches and scuffing on the floor, coming from under the big bed. You all tense up and are about to react with violence until you see what it is......a cute brown dog - a beagle from the looks of it - worms its way out from under the bed. It is gaunt but looks healthy otherwise. It wags its tail at you and gives a small "woof!" It is super excited to see you all and paws at your water skins....
Bertolt raises a brow and nods at the pieces, seeing things similar as to what his father may have sold or bought when the money was flowing well in the past. As he hears the clawing from under the bed he readies, his crossbow ready to fire until he sees the dog. "I do not wish to harm this dog but I am also almost certain it may be a trick..."
Erven takes the dusty bowl from the table and wipes it out, pours some water for the dog and sets it down on the floor.
The dog wags it’s tail as you put the bowl on the floor. It drink it all without stopping, and upon finishing it gags and coughs.....but nothing more than that. It also looks hungry but is very well-mannered.
Erven (depending on his feeling about this) bends down and breaks off a portion of his ration, feeds it to the hungry dog, and pets him. "What is your name, little fella, and how did you end up here?"
Onyx moves to the side as the others enter the room and tend to the dog. He was certain this was another trap, but he wasn't going to behead a puppy without being sure.
"Erven, Talion. I'm not certain why we are set on investigating every room, given how dangerous it has proven to be. Surely your pilfered baubles are not worth our lives."
As he speaks, Onyx will use his Divine Sense, mostly focused on the dog.

You don't sense any ill intention from the dog, it seems grateful and happy for the water and wags its tail. You're probably the first living things its seen in a long time. The dog comes over to you, Erven, and licks your hand and pees a little in excitement as you show it some love. It sniffs at the ration and eats it up.

Onyx, you don't detect anything evil from the dog, just a faint light green aura - a hue which lends itself more to the good side of the spectrum. You do, however, feel a bit of a tug to the south - somewhere outside of this room. While the dog seems neutral at worst, the rest of the house reeks with undeath and ill-intent.... Onyx -
Interestingly, your sword pulses like a heartbeat and you see an alternating light to dark purple hue to it.
And then, as quickly as it comes, it is gone again.
Erven smiles, rubbing the dogs head and talking to it. “Stick with me little guy, you have given me hope. Let me give you a name, I shall name you Bear, because you give me strength to get through this place.” Erven then looks under the bed for anything else, stands up, takes some of the clothes to make a makeshift torch, and gathers to go. “Let’s find Walter. Ready?”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Sho stared at the dog, frowned. The senses from the detect magic ritual all rushing back to him, shifting through all the colorful and dazzling spectrum that painted the house, he saw a faint green aura surrounding Erven's new furry friend. "It seems like... someone has definitely been keeping it alive through necromancy magic."

Investigation: 20
Talion I forgot to mention that near the bed there is a strange looking floorboard. It’s clearly a hiding spot. When you open it, you discover 4 more vials of the same tincture you found earlier and another vial of the ornate water you found earlier.
Talion grunts as he gingerly lifts the panel, "Well, well...", he says as he carefully lifts the vials. "I think these, your armour, Ervan's armour, and the sword you carry -- all of our weapons and food -- go some way to answer your question, Onyx. The trinkets..." and now he smiles guiltily and shrugs, "...well, they are for the future. I'd not risk a life for them, but these..." he says holding up the vials, "...will probably save lives. Already have! We found the one that saved Ervan in a closed bag in a closet, if I recall."
He hands one of the healing potions to each of his companions except Ervan, "We now have one each, I think. Who would like this?" he asks, holding up the presumed holy water.
As he speaks he keeps an eye on the dog, expecting it to morph into some undead monster at any moment. At sho's words he takes a step back, "Necromancy! I Knew it! Is it undead?"
He faces the dog, his hand glowing an ominous purple, his attack only stayed by the pleading brown eyes and wagging tail. It doesn't look undead, he thinks as he tries to calm himself. This place would have me kill a puppy. He laughs a little nervously, looking from Sho to Ervan to the dog, his hand still glowing.
"I have a potion of healing and a vial of holy water. I would be glad to share with anyone who needs it." Erven turns to Talion and says "Exactly. We are finding our equipment in dribs and drabs, and other useful items along the way. I think it makes sense to explore slowly, one room at a time. Let's stick together. Also, if you don't sense any direct evil from him, I would like Bear to stay with me. Perhaps he was a dog that has come back from the dead? I don't know, but somehow, he gives me comfort. If I am wrong or not thinking right about this, tell me, but only if you are sure."

Sho looked at Onyx for answers, and turned back to Erven's equally expectant eyes as the fawning puppy. He touched his nose bridge and sighed at those two pairs of wide brown eyes. "Let Erven keep it. He's a ranger. He needs a beast friend."
Also insight: 18, does Erven just really like the dog?
Talion laughs, his tension dissipating, "A beast you say?"
He looks down at the beagle, taking in it's floppy ears, wagging tail, and earnest eyes. Despite lingering reservations he reaches down to rub its neck. "Well, Beast, it seems you have some new friends."
With that he turns back to Onyx, "And so, by exploring, our numbers have increased! But more than that, if we had not come along then this harmless creature..." he looks down at the starving dog, "(You are harmless aren't you?)...would likely have died."
