I was a little disappointed they started at level 2 with what seems like quite a bit of backstory already built up, since I was looking forward to watching this party grow from session 0. But it does add to the mystery going forward.
They have mentioned in some occasions the last night and stuff like that. I think they had a short game session just to get the party together, and lvl them up quickly to 2nd lvl. As a DM, I'd do the same. The 1st lvl is meant to get in the mood I think, the real fun can start only at lvl 2 with enough HP to beat more interesting encounters. :)
I don't disagree in theory, but the lone combat encounter from this session was pretty tame.
Whatever gets us to level 3 quickly so we can find out the rest of folks' subclass choices!
I don't disagree either. Watching/participating in a group starting from level zero starts rather boring. Once characters reach level three they can start to open up a bit. I think the truly fun part will be watching the characters entwine their stories together and become a group as trusting as Vox Machina was with each other. FYI, I'm a late Critter. I still have around 80 videos to watch of the first campaign to truly be caught up.
I am still pulling for Travis (Fjord) to keep a mustang handy!
Unless they could have started with mini one shots of the characters meeting like Sam and Liam's characters first time together, I think starting the way they did was perfect. That being said, I am already a full episode and a half behind...so I am going to have to stay away from this thread until I can catch up.
It appears you and I are in the same boat. I would enjoy watching everything live but living Florida would require staying up until around 2:00 am. I did recently learn that if you have an Amazon Prime membership you can subscribe to their Twitch channel for free. This would allow you to watch rebroadcasts a bit earlier if you so choose. :)

Yup that’s what I do (the anazon prime gets 1 twitch channel, so g&s it is).
I’m also on the east coast, I generally watch up until midnight or first break live if I can, the watch the rest Saturday morning
How is Talisan using some of the spells he's using. I don't see anything in the Blood Hunter class that allows him to know vicious mockery or stuff like that. Is that a Teifling thing?

It's the Devil's Tongue Tiefling variant from the SCAG.
It might have already been discussed but some of the characters must have feats, like "Magic Initiate." Not most certainly does as she cast a couple of Cantrips and I think a 1st level spell...does anyone know if I am correct? Love how it is played that Liam's character taught her them...

The only ones that would have access to feats this early would be Caleb and Beau, because only the variant human has access to a feat at level 1. Caleb has the Keen Mind feat, which Liam has alluded to the skills granted by that a couple of times (I want to say someone actually said Keen Mind about his character, but I can't remember for sure). I'm not sure what feat Marisha took for Beau, or even if she went with the variant human.

Liam frequently says “Caleb has a keen mind so would remember that, Liam however does not” — I never realized ot was a feat though lol

You are very correct. I should have known that. Feats have been my favorite part of 5e...
Yes, the latest one (at least as shown Project Alpha) showed their subclasses although most were guessable from what they could do.
Nott is Arcane Trickster
Caleb is School of Transmutation
Beau is Way of Cobalt Soul
Jester is (obviously) Trickery domain :)
Molly is Order of the Ghostslayer
Fjord is a Hexblade Pact of the Blade
Yasha hasn’t been back since they leveled, so no idea
I’m interested in finding out their backgrounds. I think so far we only know that Fjord is sailor and Beau is criminal, right?
Isn't Molly Entrepreneur? That'd be my guess.
The only ones that have used their backgrounds are Fjord and Beau, which are Sailor and Criminal respectively. I think it's a pretty safe bet that Molly is an Entertainer, being in the circus and all. Nott is likely also a Criminal, being that one of the standard Flaws is "When I see something valuable, I can’t think about anything but how to steal it," and I think that Caleb is a Hermit (or possibly an Outlander), because he has talked about how he removed himself from society. Jester is almost guaranteed to be a Noble, because she's talked about writing her mom for money a few times. It's impossible to know what Yasha's is being that Ashley Johnson has only been able to attend one session, but if I were to wager a guess I'd say that it's Gladiator, because it's an Entertainer variant which would tie into her connection with the circus as well as her brutish nature.

I try that every week. I end up falling asleep by 10:30 pm. My usual bedtime is 9:30/10:00...stupid waking up at 5:30 am every day to be a "productive member of society."

I agree with your guesses, though I think Yasha might be something else more likely, because she's not that charismatic person, what makes a gladiator. But hopefully we'll see (her) soon. :)
I love the background feature in DnD. It helps some players who struggle with the role play of their characters. I also like the idea of players creating their back story It is really funny but watching the first adventure of season 1 of critical role, Orion (is it Orian?) kinda annoyed me with how he was always in character, while the rest only stepped into character once in a while. In retrospect, I would probably have loved him now as I think in many ways he was ahead of his time. He would fit really well in the new "season." I understand that there was difficulties...but looking back, he did what the players are doing now. Back then they all seemed to be unable to interact with him during the first 13 episodes, as though he was far beyond their abilities as roll players...IMHO.

Guess what guys - Critical Role starts for me at 4 am, and I watch the last scenes going to work ;)

How do you get a one-armed goblin out of a tree?
Wave!

I believe that Nott is an Arcane Trickster.
She/Her College Student Player and Dungeon Master

Great information. Thanks.

So does having a Barney bag of sweets make Jester the best companion ever?
