I do not recall her casting that spell, thought she just shape changed, but you must be right. Powerful spell!
I think they just decided to make it a narrative decision to not have her say specifically that she's casting the spell, but I believe I recall her mentioning that she was burning her 9th level spell on it at one point when strategizing. They're much more interested in constructing a narrative than presenting the game mechanics, and will sometimes subvert them, but they try to make sure they follow the rules as much as they can, excepting when it interferes with their house rules.

Either way....Mercer makes DMing look easy. His range of voices and characters and knowledge is mind boggling. 11 Episodes down, watching 12 the in between episode where most of the group is away on vacation so Matt is giving advice...I look forward to seeing the end of this story arc. I am 100% going to get the book on the world he created in Critical Role....
Ok, I found last night's episode entertaining, but frustrating as well. They KNOW that there is a time limit. They KNOW that they have to defeat the "Big Bad" BEFORE he does the thing. Yet here they are wasting resources and talking about taking a long rest. I love these guys but I feel like they are screwing the pooch here.

I think they're trying to collect tools to help them in the fight. Also, if Travis hadn't rolled a natural 1 on his stealth check, they probably wouldn't have had to waste any resources fighting those guys. Grog knocking over the statue kinda disrupted their plans. The long rest is because they've depleted their resources getting there, based on a bunch of mishaps that were largely out of their control, or at least based on bad rolls, and they're worried about going up against the big bad while being hamstrung. They may have to make the very unenviable decision to sacrifice a city to save the world, because if they go up against him now, they risk losing the fight, and allowing the big bad to win.
Besides, that's part of the fun of D&D. Not every decision is going to be perfect, and your story is going to be affected by your good and bad decisions. It's not like a video game, where you have to succeed to progress. Failure is always an option.
Honestly that fight with the skeletons did not cost them anything but since they can't identify the glowing rock, it is just a useless trinket. However you are right, not much of it was really their fault.
It was my understanding though that the fall of Vasselheim would be the final part of Vecna's ascension as his great miracle, the destruction of the city that has never fallen. Sacrificing the city is not really an option but neither is fighting Vecna in their current state.

The spoiler info here is pretty much my thought as well. They were already between a (giant) rock and a hard place, but they are wedging themselves more tightly in that spot at this point. It will be interesting!
I was feeling rather bored with the show the last few episodes but this last one was a blast!
Them pulling of a long rest within the span of a short rest, thanks to the Feywild and Artagan is ingenious. Artagan is creepily awesome. Exactly how I pictured an archfey to behave. Sam was on point as well while impersonating the mage and the moment the Mansion got dispelled had me on the edge of my seat.
I was so excited to see Matt's dark side at the end of last night's episode. Made their upcoming fight feel more personal and I think Vox Machina needed that.

To be honest, I needed it, too. I was starting to feel like the game was dragging on. Last week's episode was kinda cool, but it was more distraction than anything. Joe Manganiello fit perfectly into the group. In my opinion he fit right in better than any other guest they've had. Almost like a super beefy Ashley, which was awesome, and I wish there was a way they could add him permanently, but it wasn't until Matt made it personal that I started to become super invested again. Now, Thursday can't come soon enough.
That was a stressful episode. I thought for certain that Scanlan was as good as done more than once.
Yeah. It's been about a half an hour and I'm still reeling. That was long and emotionally exhausting. I'm super wore out. Part of me wishes I took a nap this afternoon, so I could be fresh for this. I figured it would be a hard won fight, but I didn't expect five hours of that kind of intensity.
I thought that it dragged only a very little bit - towards the end, before they started trying to read. But wow, I’m just amazed that I can be kept interested by 5+ hours of combat in Dungeons and Dragons! Kudos to the team, Matt, and to everyone! Part of me is looking forward to next week even more than I was looking forward to this week. I need me some EMOTIONALLY CHARGED DIALOGUE namean?

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
Yeah, I am looking forward to next Thursday. I am guessing that it will be the Prologue of the series and wrap it all up. I will miss these characters but I am excited for the new campaign.

I'm just the opposite. Even though the past couple of episodes have been possibly my favorites, I feel like Vox Machina has run their course for me. I'm ready for them to start fresh with new characters to explore. In light of what they've been playing for the past 5 years, I'm rather excited to see what they pick for their next characters, in personality, social interactions, and in race/class. I'm fairly certain that they're ready for something new, too. WIll they play something comepletly different, or will they try something similar, but not too far from they are right now? Like, will Travis be a Figher or a Paladin, or will he consider Rogue or Sorcerer? Is anyone brave enough to fill Scanlan's shoes (even though I think Bard is a very clutch class)? Who will be the healer (a thankless job, but the most critical one)? Will WotC give them early access to Xanathar's, and at least one of them pick a subclass from there? I'm very excited to see what happens in the next couple of episodes. Especially if they wrap Vox Machina, and introduce the new party, in episode 115.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I believe that it is more than time to wrap this campaign up, I will miss the personalities of these characters but I can always re-watch previous episodes. Like you I am more interested in what is next.
I have no idea what they will play and that makes me feel like kid at Christmas trying to guess what is under the tree. So many possibilities!
Vox Machina have said their good byes and it sounds like they won't start the next campaign until next year, unless I miss understood Matt.
I know that there will be couple of One Shots while Matt and Marisha are away and then a 20th level Vox Machina Battle Royale. What else do you think we will see between now and the start of the New Campaign?

I'd love to see a one-shot by each of cast. We've had Liam and Sam, and I know that Talisen is on deck, but I'm really interested to see what Marisha, Laura, Travis, and Ashley would each come up with. One of the beauties of D&D is that how each campaign can be wildly different based on what each party and DM like to focus on.
Not Brian, though. Not because I wouldn't love the absolutely freakish insanity that would come out of his brain, but because I wouldn't want to put that kind of pressure on him in front of the Critical Role audience. Not while he's still learning how to play. Maybe at some point in a few years.
I've been trying to get as caught up as I can before this week and only made it to the final battle with Raishan while also trying to watch the new episodes when I can I was only able to watch 115 up till the part with Kash, Zahra and Velora, before my stream crashed and wouldn't reload. Looks like I have to wait a few more days to see how it all ends
Take your time, don’t watch 30+ episode past where you are just to be caught up. I mean unless you don’t mind seeing the story in disjointed pieces a la Pulp Fiction

The entire Core Anvil episode had me on the edge of my seat. That was just TOO close
