Description
CR 0 : DCR 0 - OCR 0
Weedles are cat-sized larval insects with a segmented body ranging in color from yellow to reddish-brown. Each segment of a weedle's body is round, it has a red nose, two small, black eyes on its face, and two spherical feet on each body segment. The combination of red and yellow in its color scheme creates a bright warning to predators that it is poisonous, also indicated by the conical, two-inch venomous stinger on its head and a barbed one on its tail, as does the veil of slightly poisonous dust it is covered in at all times.
Living in the trees of forests or hiding in the leaf litter on the ground, they can distinguish their food using an acute sense of smell, reaching it by spitting silky strands and pulling themselves to it, like a grappling hook. As young larvae, their appetite matches their weight, making them voracious pests. Once they've eaten enough, they gather in clusters and spin cocoons, a form known as kakunas, waiting to grow while being defended by their wasp-like adult form : Beedrills.
Hooks (1d4) :
- Weedles are eating a local community's crops, causing risk of famine.
- Weedles are multiplying in dangerous numbers in the nearby forest, they need to be found and culled before they turn into their adult form and become an actual local threat.
- The local Weedle population, a primary food source for many creatures, has been greatly reduced recently, throwing the local ecosystem's balance into peril. Whatever, or whoever, is causing this must be found and stopped, lest hungry monsters come closer to town to feed.
- A local alchemist hires the party to gather Weedle poison, best done on living subjects, as it remains more potent that way.
