Pirates, asteroids, and all sorts of deadly creatures await adventurers that venture into the cosmos. Spelljammer Academy is a series of four adventures that prepare characters for Wildspace and take them from levels 1-5. Once they've completed their academy training, they'll be ready for Light of Xaryxis, the adventure included in Spelljammer: Adventures in Space.
What Is Spelljammer Academy?
Located on a remote island many miles from shore, Spelljammer Academy is the premier training ground for adventurers looking to venture into Wildspace. This state-of-the-art facility hosts everything aspiring spacefarers need to prepare for adventures beyond their planet.
Cadets will train alongside seasoned spelljamming instructors as they learn the ins and outs of surviving the perils of Wildspace and the Astral Sea. Those that have what it takes will join the prestigious ranks of the Spelljammer Academy's navy.

Where can we get info for the new races/classes if players are wanting to use those?
I'm excited for the adventure but why you gotta do my main man Mirt dirty in how you describe him? He's one of my favorite NPCs (primarily from how a great DM portrayed him as a recurring character in our Storm King's Thunder and Dragon Heist campaigns), and I feel like his gregarious personality and soft appearance are supposed to hide the fact that he's still a hyper -competent politician and fighter. I can understand not wanting to have the players upstaged by the equivalent of a level 20 character, but surely there's other ways around that other than having him literally drop his pants multiple times? Also apparently he's been exiled from Waterdeep, based on his description block? When did that happen?
Still excited for everything Spelljammer, but if I run this I'm definitely adjusting things to make Mirt cool again.
Good question! The Spelljammer races will officially drop on August 16 with the release of Spelljammer: Adventures in Space
Agreed, I was thrown off by his portrayal in this as well. Especially considering he's a fixture of the Forgotten Realms canon. All of the stories Ed Greenwood wrote when first developing the Realms (pre-D&D) had Mirt as the protagonist.
So the idea with these is to get characters from 1st to 5th level with the prequel adventures, and then ... change their races and backgrounds and spells? Start with entirely new characters? It sounds like the other option is to not play the prequels at all until the full release.
I'm excited to see what Spelljammer will bring. With the free supplements we've been getting, like the 10 exclusive creatures and now this, I (as I'm sure many others are too) am really looking forward to see what space-fairing shenanigans will be in the new book!
You can find unofficial versions on the Unearthed Arcana site, but yeah, like the admin folks said.
Yeah there's kind of a few options although I agree it feels like a bit of a false start.
I am guessing that the adventure in the Spelljammer book won't be a direct sequel to this one (i.e., won't assume the characters originated from "Spelljammer Academy" in the Forgotten Realms). So this is really just one possible on-ramp to the setting.
You can officially use the UA Spelljammer races in AL games until the books drop on Aug 16th according to the new season 12 rules.
Short question: what equipment do PCs have at the start of the adventure? Because they get a free wepon and a 50gp coupon later on in the module to buy equipment. Is that just extra stuff or is it thier main source of equipment?
You have starting equipment from your class and background as per usual.
You get the Adventurer's League starting equipment choices (or rolled wealth if you're doing non-AL), and then you get the 50gp on top of that.
My SJ campaign is a quite a few months off by now and would like to be able to run this fun little module. Any guaranty to find in say 6 months? or next year?
What is the deal with the uniform colors because they are not consistent with the art at all.
For now you can use the unearthed arcana versions found here Travelers of the Multiverse | Unearthed Arcana | Dungeons & Dragons (wizards.com)
Thank you!
Absolutely love this, and can't wait to run it!
