A strange box. A forgotten campaign. A bag of mysterious, possibly useless, definitely weird magic items.
To celebrate the launch of Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club, we’re inviting fans to create their own fun, strange, or nostalgic magic item using the official D&D Beyond Homebrew tool for a chance to win totally tubular prizes.
Whether it’s inspired by 1980s fantasy, your own game night memories, or the tone of Welcome to the Hellfire Club, your item should feel like it belongs in this world. A world full of mystery, shared storytelling, and adventure with friends.
This is your chance to stretch your imagination and show what you’d stash in the Bag of Holding.
Submission Requirements

- A name for your magic item
- A short (1 to 3 sentence) description (max 50 words) in English
- A simple, optional mechanic or effect
This contest celebrates creativity and tone over rules or complexity. No need to build full mechanics, stats, or modifiers. No need for it to be functional within the D&D Beyond character sheet. Think strange. Think simple.
Need inspiration? Here are a few examples to get you started:
- The Enter Key: A large key with ENTER etched into it. Once per day, it can open any lock.
- The Devil’s Axe: An infernal weapon for Bards who want to sell their soul and rock their opponent’s world.
- The Carbonated Container: A cold cylinder of metal that rattles when shaken. If opened, it produces a variety of random effects based on a dice roll.
How to Enter
- Use the D&D Beyond Homebrew Magic Item tool to create your item
- Publish your item
Optional: Share and discuss your magical item on Discord, forums, or social:
- The official D&D Discord channel for the contest
