
a true detective gathers evidence, investigates and solve crimes, making arrests, and serving as a witness in court. Some detectives are trained for far more advanced matters dealing with the occult, the arcane or even the forbidden.

You roll a D8 to determine your specialty. Once you begin the case even the smallest sign of magic is enough for you to know if magic was involved and what school it originated from with no check required.

When dealing with your specialty cases you can treat a 18 and 19 on the d20 as a critical success when making a check in investigation, insight, perception or deception. Additionally once per long rest you can make a proficiency an expertise for one check that directly pertains to your investigation.
You have four informants in a single town of your choice. Whenever you are on an investigation in that town, you can call upon one of them for information that is vague, but accurate to an average individuals knowledge. You can hire new informants in different areas or win favor from them for the same effect. Talk with your DM about your options.
