You have lived a life of drudgery and toil, working a family farm. You have whiled away your downtime dreaming of adventure and glory, always fearing that such an exciting life was impossible for you. Now something has happened that provided you with the opportunity to live those dreamed-of adventures and chase that tantalizing glory, and you will not sit idle and let this chance pass you by!
Others may see you as naive, possibly even delusional, but you know that all it takes to make a difference in this crazy world is a bit of wit, a lot of grit, and the determination to do what's right.
So go on great adventurer, get out there, slay that no-good dragon, save that gosh darn princess, and show this world what a real hero looks like!
- Skill Proficiencies: Your Pa didn't raise you to be no slacker, so you're pretty okay at a couple things that any right minded farmhand needs to know. Choose two from Athletics, Nature, Animal Handling, Medicine, Perception, and Survival.
- Tool Proficiencies: Taking a crop to market was always sort of like practicing for an adventure, so you took your training in land vehicles real serious.
- Languages: You may not have gotten out much, but you did the best to learn what you could to become what the town mayor would call "worldly". So you've learned one additional language, mostly by sitting around the local inn talking to travelers.
- Equipment: You've got your trusty hoe, a knit cap your Ma made you, and a rusty ol' helmet you found in the hayloft of Grandpappy's barn. These things, along with a small sack of silver you've been saving, aren't much, but Pa always said "big things come from small seeds".
What event spurred you to leave the farm in search of adventure? Select one of the following, or make up one of your own.
| d6 | What set you on the road to adventure? |
|---|---|
| 1 | Uncle Lowen and Aunt Larue were murdered by Orc troopers, and there's nothing left for you there. You want to be an adventurer like your father before you. |
| 2 | You're the youngest of 7 brothers, and you're just not needed back on the farm. This is your opportunity to get away from all that and see the world! |
| 3 | You had a falling out with Pa after an accident killed your brother. You'll never forget his final words to you: "the wrong kid died!" Well you'll show him just what you can do! |
| 4 | The fields failed, the animals all died, and finally Pa succumbed to a wasting disease that no spell could long keep at bay. The tragic memories of home were too much, you just had to get away. |
| 5 | The farm was doing so well that Ma and Pa were able to hire some extra hands, leaving you free to pursue the life of adventure you always talked about. |
| 6 | A kindly old wizard stopped by the farm and spoke urgently to you parents. The next day, with tears in their eyes, they packed you up and sent you on your way, refusing to give an explanation. |
People just trust you, they can look into your eyes and instantly tell that you mean what you say and say what you mean. Common folk, especially older folk, just naturally feel the desire to take care of you, give you a hand up, and shelter you from the world. You can usually get help from strangers, especially farmers and people older than yourself. This help extends to your companions, within reason, as most will recognize that a good kid like you must have good friends as well.
This earnest goodness has its downside though, as the more jaded, bitter members of society take you and your friends for rubes and an easy marks, they will try to prey on your naivety and take you for everything you've got. People in the big city will sometimes take you for a hapless hick from the middle of nowhere, which is really only half true.

| 5 | Mama always said "dying is a part of life", but I sure wish it wasn't. |

| 1 | Pa liked rain, he said he'd seen just about every kind there is, "little bitty stingin’ rain… and big ol’ fat rain. Rain that flies in sideways. And sometimes rain even seems to come straight up from underneath", so I kinda like rain too. |

| 4 | My cousin, Vinny, he always tells me "you aren't the good things you do, you're all the bad things you do, that's all that counts", too bad about that, I sure do a lot of dumb things. |
| 5 | When I left home the mayor told me "you ain't gonna amount to nothin'", now he's a pretty smart man, so I suppose he's right. Kinda sad about it though.. |
| 6 | Granny said "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail", now I'm not hoping to do no failing, but I sure ain't done no planning either. |
