Mercenary Image

War has been your life for as long as you care to remember. You trained as a youth, studied the use of weapons and armor, learned basic survival techniques, including how to stay alive on the battlefield. Mercenaries fight for money or other forms of payment rather than for political interests.

A mercenary is any person who: is especially recruited locally or abroad in order to fight in an armed conflict; does, in fact, take a direct part in the hostilities; is motivated by the desire for private gain and is promised material compensation substantially in excess of that promised or paid to combatants of similar ranks and functions in the armed forces.

If a captured soldier is found to be a mercenary, then they can expect treatment as a common criminal and may face execution. A mercenary cannot expect repatriation at war's end.
