Deep in the sea there are monsters spawned from nightmares. They lurk in the murky shadows of the waves waiting for helpless sailors to strike down and devower. You have made it your job to hunt and kill these creatures.
You know the value in a hard days work and what its like to put your life on the line for your job. You may act as a harpooner someone who's job is to hold the monster in place while its rips and tears through the waves. Or perhaps you're a flayer, someone who guts the monster and separates the parts worth selling and the parts worth tossin'. Any way you cut it, fishing is more of a blood sport then any other profession on the coast.
Some people back in the city just don't understand why you do what you do but every fisherman has their reason the head back out to sea. Work with your DM to determine why you would take up such a dangerous profession and what type of crew you took up employment with. Perhaps you lost something to the sea and fishing in your way of fighting for it back. Perhaps you accrued too much debt and now you have to work it off by risking your life day in and day out. Perhaps you feel the most at home drenched in blood and fish-guts with a nothing but a knife in your hand and a storm at your back.

Over the course of being a fisherman you have accued a numerous amount of scars and old wounds from your battles. These scars mark you as a fishman and command a bit more respect from the common folk and sailors who know of your profession. Coastal settlers and inland citizens alike are willing to extend a bit more leniency in your actions and respect you a bit more then the average folk.
