Rain on your skin, air in your lungs; you've never been a fan of the material plane but it still beats paperwork, so when management came to you with a crack in the universe they couldn't explain you requisitioned a physical form and stepped through the portal. As soon as you arrived it became clear something is terribly wrong. None of this mystery adds up, management has stopped responding and things keep trying to murder you. If you're going to survive long enough to get to the bottom of this you'll need to make some new friends, and fast.
It's been a long time since you've been on the material plane and communicating through verbal language doesn't come naturally to you. Instead, you communicate telepathically, through hardboiled voiceover narration The minds of beings unused to contact with the unknowable will subconsciously protect their own sanity by perceiving you as having spoken normally. Prolonged communication will make them increasingly uncomfortable and they will eagerly answer your questions in order to end the interaction more quickly.
For Example:
Tavern Keeper: "Can I get you something to drink?"
You: "The lights were low and I could see a single bead of sweat hovering above the barkeeps pudgy lip. The thought of drinking material liquid disgusted me but I could feel this mortal forms thirst and there were more important things at stake than my discomfort. I ordered an ale and leaned back in my chair."
Tavern Keeper: "One ale coming up sir!"
