Prerequisite: Lawful or Neutral Evil alignment, Martial, Sorcerer or Warlock Class.

Conflict has been your life for as long as you can remember. As soon as you were able to hold a sword, you were instructed in the use of weapons and armor, learned basic survival techniques and put through harsh training that slowly stripped you of your empathy and individualism. You emerged from this crucible hardened, ruthless and exceptionally cruel.

You fought in one battle after another, until something made you turn on your former comrades. You may have been gravely injured on the battlefield and left for dead, only to be shown mercy by your foes, you may have lost (or found) a crucial part of yourself in a moment of bloodlust, you may have simply ended one too many lives! Regardless of the circumstances surrounding your change in allegiances, you decided that it was time to move on, and you left a trail of bodies behind you as you planned and executed your exit strategy.

Equipment: An insignia of rank, a trophy taken from a fallen enemy (a dagger, broken blade, or piece of a banner), a set of bone dice or deck of cards, your old military fatigues, and a pouch containing 1d10 gp.

If you rolled the Officer or Quartermaster Specialty, you may choose to replace your starting armor with a set of Plate, Half-Plate or Studded Leather, or choose to add an additional weapon you are proficient with. Add an additional 1d10 to your starting gp roll.

Specialty

During your time as a soldier, you had a specific role to play in your unit or army. Roll a d8 to determine your role from the table below:

d8 Specialty
1 Officer
2 Scout
3 Infantry
4 Cavalry
5 Healer
6 Quartermaster
7 Standard bearer
8 Support staff (cook, blacksmith, or the like)

Feature: Go Your Own Way

You've left your old life behind, or you're trying to at the very least.  You may still be fleeing, you may be selling your sword and martial prowess on your own terms, looking for a place to settle down or even fighting to right as many of your wrongs as you can. Regardless, your future now belongs to you.

You are used to sleeping in just about any terrain and with your armor on. You will never gain exhaustion from doing so.

Suggested Characteristics

For whatever reason was in your heart, you slew your comrades and went on the run. You may have felt conflicted or afraid, you may be resolute in your decision or you may still be the ruthless, cruel individual you were during your time as a soldier.
