You come from a far off land, an isolated community, or another world. In other words, yours is a culture different to those of everyone you meet. While some might be able to advertise themselves as interestingly exotic, approachable, or exciting, you have never had that luck. Instead, you survive by keeping your head down. You have learned that you are different enough that many feel superior to you, and it is far more survivable for you to pretend they're right.
You may have come to this land for one of many reasons. Perhaps you were exiled from your true home. Perhaps it was engulfed in war. Perhaps it no longer exists. What truly matters is that you are here now, and you must find a way to cope.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, choose one from Animal HandlingNaturePerceptionStealthSurvival
- Tool Proficiencies: You can choose proficiency in a Musical Instrument, Gaming Set, or Artisans' Tools.
- Languages: Any one of your choice.
- Equipment: One set of traveler's clothes, any one musical instrument, artisans' tools, or gaming set you are proficient with, a trinket or memento from your homeland, a tent, a blanket, and a pouch containing 5 gp.
You have been separated from your homeland, but it will forever be a part of you. You may try to continue your culture's practices, or you may try to assimilate, but one thing is for sure: your true home will always have a profound effect on you.
| d6 | Former Home |
|---|---|
| 1 | Survivor - Your former home was destroyed, and is now irreparable. While you managed to flee, you now have no home to go back to. |
| 2 | Refugee - Your homeland has been embroiled in warfare, tragedy, or immense difficulty. It may still exist, but living there was no longer an option for you. |
| 3 | Exile - Some unfortunate event forced you from your home, leaving you homeless and unwanted in your old land. |
| 4 | Explorer - Your homeland never appealed to you, and you found yourself travelling far, far away. |
| 5 | Colonist - You and others sought to claim new lands as your own, but for whatever reason, your efforts failed. |
| 6 | Serf - Somehow, you were taken from your home, and now live in this new land. Perhaps you dream to go back one day, or perhaps this is your home now. |
Your accent, mannerisms, figures of speech, and perhaps even your appearance all mark you as foreign. Curious glances are directed your way wherever you go, which can be a nuisance. Most people you meet will be either apathetic or dismissive of your struggles. Instead, you have learned to fend for yourself and the people who depend on you. When you're in rural towns, villages, or countryside, you can find a safe, secluded spot to set a camp. When residing in a camp in one of these locations, your lifestyle will never be below poor, even if you cannot pay. If you are assisted by party members, family, travelers, or good people, you can maintain a modest lifestyle at 2sp per day. In addition, you can find food and fresh water for yourself and up to five other people each day, provided that the land offers berries, small game, water, and so forth.
