You were the victim of some warlord’s incessant conquest, if not this world, then perhaps another, a slave of the Illithid, Githyanki, Duergar, Drow, and so on. You escaped by the narrowest means, learning the coded signals needed to know just what was safe, and what wasn’t. Work with your DM to determine how you were taken into captivity, and what your life used to be.
- Skill Proficiencies: Either Acrobatics or Athletics, and one of your choice from Investigation, Nature, Persuasion, Sleight of Hand, or Stealth
- Tool Proficiencies: One type of artisan’s tools
- Languages: One of your choice
- Equipment: A small trinket (from which you can determine on the trinkets table) to remind you of the joys of childhood, a hat or hood to shade yourself from the sun, a set of common clothes, and a small pouch containing 5 gp
Feature: Fugitive Network
You know where to go to find help in case you are ever being pursued by guardsmen or town militia. You can read signs left by other fugitives letting you know whom you can trust. This help may come in the form of disguises for you and your adventuring companions, or even access to cellars or hidden passageways that let you make a quick escape.
Suggested Characteristics
Slaves know what it is like to live a grueling, and unforgiving life, having everything taken away from them, and being forced to labor against their will has given them the resolve to live another day.
