Sole Survivor Image

You are a survivor.  But surviving often has a cost.  Your cost is remembering...

Whether you lost your family, your village, your comrades in arms, or your fellow travelers, you can never lose the pain.  The void in your heart  is now heavily guarded.  While not antisocial, you are very guarded against any form of real intimacy.  This detachment allows you to act pragmatically and follow your own path.  You will always have part of your heart in the past, no matter what the future holds.

For you, surviving at all costs is the only way to truly honor those you've lost.  Once per day, you can shrug off some of the damage from a blow that would otherwise reduce your HP to "0" or less.  Instead of falling unconscious, through your sheer force of will, you retain 1 HP and gain advantage on your next attack roll.  This ability requires a long rest between uses and can never be used more than once per day.

Suggested Characteristics

You are defined by your loss.  Your continued existence is burdened by pain, but is also how you have chosen to honor those that were taken from you.

d6 Personality Trait
1 We were comrades, a unit, a family. There is no reason I should have lived, but here I am. Now I carry not only their memory, but the guilt of survival.
2 When the village fell, I was rushed away from the destruction. Left alone, I made it to a neighboring town. Now, I am all that remains of childhood home. Those responsible will see justice before my days end.
3 My Order was not grand, but we were strong and unified. Until the day we were betrayed by an apostate. I am now the sole practitioner of our faith. But not for long.
4 The Guild was controlling most of the town. Our prestige was respected and the people gave us honor. Then we were betrayed from within, and the Guild Hall became a slaughter house. I will have my revenge.
5 My Family has passed. My home lies in ruin. I am the last of my name, but I will make that name great!
6 I was abandoned in the wilds. I was raised with no knowledge of who I was or where I came from. But I've made it his far, and I will find out the true nature of my origins.
d5 Ideal
1 If you don't allow them close, no one can reach out to hurt you.
2 I was given a second chance...Everyone deserves the same.
3 Words are wind - Taking action is the only thing that makes life worth anything.
4 Life is fleeting but equally valuable; No life is a waste, and all deserve to survive.
5 Life is pain, and sorrow, and burden. I carry mine as punishment for not joining those that have passed.
d4 Bond
1 My Family name is everything. It defines me.
2 Only those that fought in those battles know the true nature of our band. Our legacy and honor must be kept clean.
3 Though I can never return to my home, it will always fill me with both comfort and remorse.
4 My Patron Deity will be venerated and praised in the new Order I will form.
d4 Flaw
1 The memory and names of my compatriots are dear to me, and any that besmirch them are subject to immediate confrontation.
2 The guilt of survival has left me with little regard for my own existence. I would rather die in reckless abandon than to stretch the days of my life by a single moment through self-preservation.
3 My relentless pursuit of answers concerning my origins has led me to become manipulative, flighty, and unreliable to others.
4 Brooding always on my loss, I foresake the company of any that cannot relate personally to the void in my soul. The eternal joy of some riles my anger.
