Perhaps you were born into the group, joined them willingly after being told tales of grandeur, or maybe they kidnapped you while you were young and raised you as a member. No matter the way you got there, you were with the cult for a while before they finally decided it was time. While you were among their ranks, you learned a lot. They treated you just as they did any other member of the group, but you eventually learned the real purpose they had for you. Unfortunately you discovered it too late. They came for you while you were asleep, dragged you to the alter, and did what they had done so many times before. They sacrificed you to their god and disposed of your body... Only, it didn't take, they must have done something wrong this time because you woke up a time later, battered, bruised and cut all over your body. All your time spent with those people only for them to sacrifice you.
Now you have a choice, swear vengeance and destroy them or run and hope they never learn the truth. Either way, you've got some things to do.
- Skill Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with two of the following skills from your time in the cult: Arcana, History, Nature, Religion, Medicine, Survival.
- Tool Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with one of the following tool sets from a job you did during your time in the cult: Alchemist's Supplies, Brewer's Supplies, Herbalism Kit, Poisoner's Kit
- Languages: You learn one exotic that has an association with the entity your cult followed: Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan.
- Equipment: You've managed to scrounge up the following equipment since you woke up after the attempted sacrifice: a small knife, a set of common clothes, 5 candles, a tinderbox and a pouch containing 5 gp.
All cults have something they worship or believe in. What was your cult a follower of? Was it some being lurking deep in the ocean? Or perhaps a ruler of another plane of existence? Maybe it was an entity made up entirely by the leader. Pick one of the options off this list, or come up with one of your own.

Suggested Characteristics
Your time with the cult is most of what what remember of your past. You gave everything you had and you were betrayed by the people you trusted most. Now that you've come out the other side with the knowledge of what they tried to do to you and what you're sure they are doing to others, you need to decide what kind of person you are and how you can be better than who you were.
