Order Of The Companion Image

Also called, The Companions. You belong to an order directly overseered by the ruler of Elturgard, titled the High Observer of Torm. The order is comprised mostly by paladins and clerics, to some extent, which were followers of various gods, such as: Torm, Amaunator, Helm and Tyr. But, they also swore to follow and uphold the Creed Resolute, which had them serve the High Observer and the greater good, uphold Elturgard's law, and permit no difference in faith to come between them, among other codes of behavior. They shared the realm's aim of bringing righteous judgment to all the Realms and "setting Faerûn straight". They kept order within the capital, Elturel, preserved local civilization from wild and destructive forces, and guarded the realm against the threats around it, whatever their nature was.

The Order of the Companion is typically composed of lawful-natured individuals united under tenets of honor, duty, and justice. These virtues and the tight-knit bond between members mold these holy warriors for their eternal crusade against the forces of evil and corruption.

Creed Resolute

The Creed Resolute exhorted those who swore it to:

  • Serve the realm of Elturgard and the High Observer.
  • Defend the city of Elturel body and soul.
  • Serve all good people and the greater good.
  • Uphold Elturgard's laws and the Creed Resolute itself.
  • Permit no difference in faith to come between them, nor attribute the Companion to one god or another.

Among other codes of behavior; false piety was considered a sin, but being prejudiced against others on the quality of their faith was disapproved of in the Creed. If one of the Companions or Hellriders overstepped the limits of law or proper behavior, or even questioned the policies of the realm, their comrades would admonish them to "recall the Creed" and the matter was resolved, or at least forgotten.

Feature: Always Watchful

The Order of the Companion must be poised to retaliate should evil misbehave. To stay prepared, the organization works openly with local groups to identify and monitor evil threats mainly, such as cults, crime syndicates, or inherently evil creatures. When you enter a new settlement, you can request an audience on behalf of the order with faction agents, law enforcement, or clergy sympathetic to your cause.

Suggested Characteristics

These paladins were truly courageous and completely zealous in walking the righteous path, being utterly confident in their convictions and in the good and just cause of Elturgard, and the oath to the Creed Resolute is what inspired them. It was said purity focused their minds, conviction fired their blood, and faith hardened their hearts. They were proud of their dedication to the cause of good, their clear morals, and even their intolerance. They appeared needlessly stern to others, even humorless. They did not know fear, yet they still despised it in others. They believed nothing could stand in their way, not while they had their blessed swords in hand
