All sages study the lore of the multiverse; some even claim to be sages who study the Art of Magic. But very few of these scholars have actually witnessed the arcane (or dabbled in ancient magic) enough to have a deeper meaning of the subject. You, however, have spent your early years before your adventuring life studying magic, and hunting instances where you can watch a spell be cast, or a magic item used. You are one of the few sages who can honestly call themself an Arcane Sage.

Suggested Characteristics
Your characteristics define you as a sage. Your Personality Traits might describe your methods of study, and your Bonds might tell why you chose to study magic. Your flaws would probably relate to your weakness for magical knowledge, something that is unavoidable for someone who studies the Arcane.
d6 | Personality Trait |
---|---|
1 | If I see a display of very powerful magic, I can't help but stop and stare as if hypnotized. |
2 | I'm very interested in Divine Magic, and how gods transmit magic to their clerics. |
3 | When I get my hands on a magic item, I giddily fiddle around with it like a brand new toy. |
4 | Sometimes, I poke the air cautiously. I'm not insane, I'm testing for areas where The Weave is strong. |
5 | I can't help but show of my Arcane knowledge - people are so impressed by my information on the planes, that sometimes they walk away because of how overwhelming the advanced knowledge is. |
6 | A sorcerer, wizard, warlock, you name it! I'll follow them around like an annoying pet until I've jotted down every last bit of information on their magical skill! |
d6 | Ideal |
---|---|
1 | Secrets. Secrets of knowledge are meant to be shared with those who can handle the information (like me). (Neutral) |
2 | Friendship. Only by allying with magic-users can we truly know about their skills. (Good) |
3 | Perception. It's important to take notes on anything and everything, that way nothing will be forgotten. (Any) |
4 | Tradition. The only magic I care to study is the magic that's been around for centuries. (Lawful) |
5 | Power. I study magic to hopefully one day wield it myself, and use it to gain power. (Evil) |
6 | Creativity. Magic is about creating things to fit your will, and that's why I like it. (Chaotic) |
d6 | Bond |
---|---|
1 | I served under a renowned wizard, hoping to become his apprentice. However, when I didn't show magical prowess, he decided to only let me study magic instead of learn it. I will never fail someone like that again. |
2 | I was a member of my city's guard until I started studying the magic of an Eldritch Knight on our crew. I owe my knowledge to him. |
3 | Magic has been passed down my family line through the ages, and we've all studied it before we learned it. I study magic so one day I can use it. |
4 | At a young age I was exploring and stumbled upon a powerful magical creature. I had no idea what it was at the time, so I studied to find out, and have studied magical creatures ever since. |
5 | A wizard prophesised that I had been born in a spot where the Weave's presence was strong. I took that to heart and started studying the arcane to learn about my special birth. |
6 | My family was strongly religious, and I had always worshipped Mystra in particular. In honor of her, I started studying the art of magic. |
d6 | Flaw |
---|---|
1 | When I was younger, I sacrificed something important to me in exchange for magical knowledge. I can honestly say that I'd easily do it again. |
2 | My studies of magic consume all of my time and are extremely important to me. So important that I often don't pay attention to the rest of the world. |
3 | If I had to pick between saving the world or learning a powerful magical secret, I'd pick the latter and not look back. |
4 | A magical creature is ravaging the world? Excellent, now I have a new topic to study! |
5 | I love my family, but would forget them entirely if I had the option of being adopted by a wizard. |
6 | I secretly study magic so I can one day overthrow Magic itself and gain all of its power. |

I really like this one!
Thanks!
