Some necromancers assistants stay by choice others are given very little free will but none of them manage to remain unharmed.Your character will have some form of corruption whether this is a physical deformity or a mental disorder talk with your DM how this will effect your character and the choices they make. Also talk with your DM about how you escaped your master is he still out looking for you, did you mange to fake your death to escape, was he a teacher to you and he eventually set you out on your own to gather magic tools and spells he wanted, or did you manage to kill him while his guard was down and make your escape.
