Lost Memory Image

You awoke one day with no memories. Alone on a deserted island, wandering a strange forest, or harbored in a foreign home, you had no recollection of who you were, how you got here, or what happened to you before the awakening. You knew enough to survive, but besides that, you were a blank slate. And since that day, your memory has not returned, leaving you feeling alone and cast out.

As time passed, you uncovered a few things—unexpected skills, preferences in food and dress, some strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps you took a vacation to the mountains and found yourself able to traverse them with surprising skill. Or maybe you found yourself harmonizing effortlessly with a wandering bard in your local tavern. Maybe you tried your hand at an underground fighting ring and found the sword in your hand a welcome familiarity. These things come rarely and nothing so far has managed to trigger a full revelation. It is up to you whether you try to uncover anything more about your past, or embrace this unexpected second chance and start your life anew.

Skill Proficiencies: You have many hidden talents, and you’ve lived and learned as well. Choose one skill proficiency from your past and one from your present.
Tool Proficiencies: Someone from your past must have taught you how to use these... Choose one tool proficiency.
Equipment: Everything you own is a strange jumble of old and new. You still carry with you an item from before the awakening—a weapon you found lying beside you, a set of tools, or an eerily familiar musical instrument. You also have one small trinket, perhaps a necklace, a handkerchief, or a ring; you are unable to remember where you got it, but unwilling to let it go.

Feature: Unexpected Ally

No matter where you go, you’re bound to run into someone who finds you familiar in some way. They can place you as native to their distant home country, or recognize the craftsmanship of the blade you still carry from your past. Others may not know anything about you, except that you are clearly out of place and in need of a helping hand. Regardless, when you feel eyes on you in the tavern or catch a lingering gaze across the town square, you will often find an unexpected friend who is willing to give you food and shelter, and possibly even some new information about who you are.
