Riding The Waves Image

You are a humanoid who has turned to the ways of a criminal. But you aren't just any criminal, you are a pirate and a smuggler!

Whether because of wanderlust and ambition or any other reason, you have gathered a group of men, bought a ship (or stole it) and started stealing treasures from other ships or accepting privateering or smuggling contracts.

As the captain of the ship, you get the Lion's share of every treasure or reward taken, and you have amassed quite the fortune from your misdoings. Your men are loyal to you, and any mutiny are met with no mercy, unless you want to do something more to these mutineers...

Whether you're a full-time smuggler, a privateer, a pirate, or a mix, you are known in the lands and seas in which you operate in, and the authorities know your face and name all too well.

Skill Proficiencies: As a charismatic negotiator, you are exceptionally good at Persuasion, and as a pirate, you can choose one of the following three skills: Perception, Performance, or Intimidation.
Tool Proficiencies: Riding the Waves requires some good sailing tools and skills, so pick either Cartographers Tools, Navigators Tools, or Vehicles (Water)
Languages: Common, Thieves' Cant and a third language of your choosing.
Equipment: As a fairly wealthy pirate, you have the following equipment, which is: A crowbar, a torch, a shortsword, a dagger, 20 one-day rations, Scale Mail, Sailing Ship, 2 Gold, 5 Electrum, 10 Silver, 50 Copper

Becoming a Captain

Not everyone becomes a captain the same way. Roll the d4 to see how you became a captain.

d4 Becoming a Captain
1 You were adopted by a pirate captain who took pity in you, as he saw a bit of himself in you. At first just a deckboy/girl, you quickly became his most trusted companion. During a battle, he was mortally wounded, and made it clear to everyone that you were
2 When you were 17 years old, you and a couple of buddies stole a merchant ship during the nighttime while it was docked at the port. Months later, you and your friends gathered a group and started pirating.
3 You were part of the original crew of a trading ship. The captain of the ship proved to be very abusive and tyrannical, yet nobody did a thing about it, except you. You and a group of disgruntled crewmen staged a mutiny and you became the new captain.
4 You watched how merchants would make a deal seem good through only words, although the deal didn't seem good at all. You used the same trick on a ship captain and swindled him from his ship.

Feature: The Poorman's Captain

You used to be some orphan boy/girl living in a coastal village, with dreams of sailing the high seas and becoming wealthy.

Now you are here, with all this wealth, a ship, and a crew who are loyal to you. Because of this, you bring hope to less fortunate people, and it is easier for you to charm them or even join your crew. You don't use fancy words usually, as you still retain that rough language that you had as a child, therefore the poor have an easier time relating to you. Also, people with a poor background are less likely to betray you if they are in your company.

Suggested Characteristics

2 Notoriety. Being chased by the authorities, stealing treasures, and becoming famous for my misdeeds. I like it. (Chaotic)

3 Although I gain the lion's share of the treasure, I give some of the money to the poor I visit in villages.
4 Just being out sailing in the ocean makes me feel alive. This ship is my home now.
d6 Flaw
1 I sometimes get too carried away when making an example out of a traitor or prisoner.
2 I may have a bit of a drinking problem...
3 I've been so accustomed to the ocean, if I'm not on or near the ocean, I just don't feel right.
4 When I see something valuable, I can’t think of anything but how to steal it.
5 I just can't resist having some sexy time with women/men whenever I have the chance.
6 I don't pay attention or undermine the risks of any situation. I'm pretty sure I can handle it.
