Perhaps you were adopted by an overly curious mage at a young age, subjected to the machinations of an evil wizard, or even created in an arcane study yourself! Your experience with magic has changed you, so you likely have a very defined opinion on it. You may see it as a dangerous force of destruction and corruption, as a power to create and enhance, or even somewhere in between, based on the nature of your experimentation.

- Languages: Two of your choice.
- Equipment: A set of common clothes marked in some way by the individual who experimented on you, a trinket related to the experiment's process, and a pouch containing 10 gold pieces.

Choose or randomly determine your experimentation from the possibilities in the table. Wok with your DM to come up with details: Who did this to you? Was it yourself? Why did they do it? You might prefer that the DM invents these details as part of the game, allowing you to learn more about the situation of your experimentation as your character does.
The DM is free to use your experimentation as a story hook, sending you on quests to determine details about it, how it was done, or even ways to reverse it. Additionally, when you begin your adventuring career, you may choose to keep this a secret from your companions if it is not a noticeable feature.
Suggested Characteristics
Use the tables for the Sage background or the Volstrucker Agent background as the basis for your traits and motivations, modifying the entries when appropriate to suit your identity.
Your experimentation likely will influence your bond, flaw, or even personality traits.
