Oathbound Image

For one reason or another, you live your life in service to another. You have sworn an Oath to serve a Master, guiding and protecting them throughout their days until you are either released from your Oath, or you or your Master perishes.

Work with your DM to create a Master that you serve, and how you serve them. Consider how you came to be under their service, and what you provide your Master. Were you trained from a young age to be a protector to a young noble, sworn to protect their life until your last breath? Or were you saved from a grievous injury and swore your life to help your savior continue saving lives? Maybe you were even made to swear an Oath to save your life, finding yourself in servitude to someone you wish you weren't?

Skill Proficiencies: Perception, Medicine
Tool Proficiencies: Cook's Utensils, Herbalism Kit, or Poisoner's Kit
Languages: One language that your Master speaks
Equipment: One tool set from the proficiencies listed above, an object bearing the seal of your Master (A pin, patch, medallion, or other object), and a Signal Whistle

Feature: Sharp Eyes

Through training, or simply years of protecting your Master, you have become adept at detecting threats and quick escapes, as well as finding places to deal with threats from. You find it easier to plot routes to escape from buildings or enclosed areas, and are always wary for potential ambush spots. This also makes it easier for you to find a spot to ambush foes from, as well as ways to cut the escape of an enemy short.

In addition, your time spent with your Master has imparted upon you some of their knowledge. This could take the form of how to behave in noble courts, a better understanding of battle tactics, a deeper knowledge of their profession, or a whole host of other forms depending on what kind of Master you serve. Talk with your DM to work out the exact specifics.

Suggested Characteristics

Oathbound are entirely subservient to their Master, regardless of whether or not they serve willingly. Oathbound would give their life before allowing their Master to fall. Their Master is absolute, and cannot be disobeyed. To disobey the Master is to break your Oath, and to break your Oath is to lose all purpose in your life. As such, an Oathbound is always prepared to do what has to be done in service of their Master.
