Your craft is the building and maintenance of machinery. Your experience might involve gunsmithing, steam engines, gas lamps, blast furnaces, printing presses, threshing machines, or industrial mills, drills, and pumps. With the right resources, you can build and maintain these types of machinery. Your hands are strong and careful, and you have plenty of experience getting them dirty. You belong to a guild, union or society dedicated to technological progress. Such societies are the rivals of artisan guilds, whose members tend to be displaced by industrial machinery. Perhaps you’re a factory inspector, railway engineer, or a firearm manufacturer.

As a trained and certified mechanic, you have endured long hours working alongside various crews of workers and hard laborers. You understand these people and wherever you find industry, you find friends. Whether you're in in the sweaty confines of a smoke-filled foundry, the boiler car of an old steam engine, or the industrious clamor of a factory warehouse, you find your people and they view you favorably. They may also be willing to provide you with information, assistance, transportation or temporary shelter, at the DM's discretion.
Suggested Characteristics
Mechanics are industrious and curious - they like to understand how things work and are put together. This curiosity may even may extend to people, organizations and wider political movements. Or perhaps instead they prefer to keep their head down and focus on what is real, tangible and concrete, leaving the rest to those who care.
