You have spent your life training at a temple or monastery, learning the disciplines and skills to become a monk, and now have ventured out into the world. However, just because you have received monk training, choosing the monk class doesn't have to be the only option for you; you may as well decide that you want to pursue different career paths. Work with your DM to determine the location and details of your monastery, why you came to train as a monk, and why you left.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from Acrobatics, Athletics, History, Insight, Medicine, Nature, Religion
- Tool Proficiencies: Two of the tools you have learned to use when training as a monk
- Equipment: A bottle of black ink, a quill, a small knife, a leather journal, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp.
Feature: Tranquil Home
As a former monk-in-training at a temple or monastery, you and your adventuring companions can expect to receive free healing and care at your home monastery, (though you must provide any material components needed for spells) and you may still have a residence there. Should you decide to return to live in the temple, you will be supported at a modest lifestyle, given that you take up work there. While near your monastery, you can call upon the monks for assistance, provided the assistance you ask for is not hazardous and you remain in good standing with them.

Love this background. Basically an Acolyte Background retooled for Monks. Suggest a name change though, we've used 'Monastery Fostering' to get across the idea of 'Monk-Temple Raised' but it doesn't hit right. Though we do try to use Monastery to differentiate from the clerical temples/churches.
