You were once a mere object—a teapot, a sword, or perhaps a statue—but something has granted you sentience. Now, you can move, think, and even speak. Perhaps whatever woke you intended to use you as a servant, or adopt you in place of a living child. Either way, you have free will, and intend to use it on your own terms.
- Skill Proficiencies: Deception, Performance
- Tool Proficiencies: One artisan tool
- Languages: The language of your creator
- Equipment: A trinket reminding you of your creator, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp.
Feature: Perfect Disguise
You can blend into your surroundings by pretending to be a mundane object. So long as you behave as expected of such an object, you have advantage on any skill check to appear as an ordinary object of your origin. However, if such an object would be strange to see in your environment, a creature may still choose to investigate your presence.
Suggested Characteristics
Awakened objects have no memory of their time as an object. If you are newly awakened, you may be unfamiliar with concepts that come as common sense to others. Depending on your outlook on life, you may have mixed feelings about your creator.

I like to think that the awoken object could appear to have a humanoid form and change in and out of it at any time. Also, how funny would an ambush be? They think they found the right location, but then they just see a chair instead of, what they expected to be, a person.
I do imagine the object would be able to take on a more humanoid shape, if only for mechanical ease, haha. Easier to do when you're playing as something like a former statue, or the like—that's actually what I created this background for! I created a gemstone dragonborn that used to be a fine sculpture.
Chairs... you just can't trust 'em!
