You spent a major portion of your formative years while detained, working in a prison camp, or similar environment where the neglected and shunner gathered to serve there time, innocent and guilty alike. Already the people of your home village or city have likely forgotten you, and the only comfort or solace to be found is in the camaraderie of your fellow prisoners. Once freed, you have little in the world, but the bonds and lessons of your time in captivity stick with you. .

You used to have a life, before your time on the inside. You may have found friends, true friends that knew all about what happened to you and didnt judge, but you used to have a LIFE. What took it from you, was it your own hand? Were you wrong? Or was it justified, your crimes finally catching up with you?

Most prisoners leave detention marked in some way, whether its a branding, a marked or notched ear, or that tattooing common among criminals to represent who they are, where they are from. On the inside this is armor, often even a badge of honor if not reputation. On the outside, its a sign of contempt, at least, among those not like you, not pushed to the bottom of society, scorned and neglected. to those few people like you however, this is a sure sign that you are like them, you understand, and can be trusted.
Suggested Characteristics
A freed prisoner is a story already written in some senses, so you should consider the finer points of that story. Why were you imprisoned? Was there a particular individual or group at fault, other than yourself? Guilty, innocent, complicated? How much time did you serve, where, with who? Were you released, time served, Escape, or just fortuitous circumstance led to your freedom such as a shipwreck, a clerical mistake, or random chance?
Additionally, what led your character to there current lifestyle? Many people from all walks of life become adventurers, but why would a prisoner do so, because there reasons might vary a great deal more because of there background. Many prisoners are left with little choice in there lives because of there past, and this can carry over to who wants to work with them, as few are willing to pay a hardened criminal good money, or treat them like a hero, no matter there actions.

Less of a difference than you might think, a political prisoner is inside for there representation of a cause, where they served a function of something they considered greater than themselves. They may have been neglected, abused, and put down just as much as any common criminal, but on the outside, they are not usually greeted with the same derision and contempt that a common prisoner might encounter. However, those that opposed them might still pursue there punishment and even death. Marked but Not Alone can apply instead to those that stand on opposite sides of whatever political entanglement you involved yourself in, with those that pursue you representing those that imprisoned you. Maybe it was a jailbreak, maybe it was an authority caving to outside public pressure, either way, your release has been secured and you are ready to take the fight to those in power that have robbed you of your freedom.
